Intellectual Disability Care Assistant (Support Worker)

About Cheeverstown: a voluntary organisation that provides a wide range of residential, respite and day services to almost 400 adults with an intellectual disability in Templeogue and throughout various community locations in South Dublin and Kildare.


The Care Assistant ID, supports people to live their best life through person centred support. The role focus is on providing meaningful experiences and skills development for individuals supported, respecting will and preference. Key to this role is the ability to support people to connect with their community and foster positive social roles.

 

The successful candidate must have:

  • QQI/Fetac level 5 Healthcare Assistant with experience in the field of intellectual disability.
  • The ability to promote and protect the rights of people in a manner that respects dignity, the right to make choices and privacy.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the philosophy of supported living, community integration and social role valorisation.
  • Have the ability to enable and support people to achieve their goals through quality person centered services.
  • Strong commitment to increasing opportunities to become a valued contributing member of the local community, and building on their role as a family member.
  • Excellent communication skills, and in particular, listening & responding to others' needs.
  • Strong interest and ability in providing social supports to maximise each person's quality of life and enable them to have a meaningful day.
  • Full driver's license.

 

Desirable Experience

  • Experience of working with individuals to establish a home of their own.
  • Experience of working as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of HIQA Standards and regulations.
  • Experience and working knowledge of Person Centered Planning.
  • Advocacy and networking skills.
  • Good organisational and computer skills.

Salary will be reflective of qualifications and level of experience, and paid as per the

HSE consolidated salary scales.
