Job Description

Our Electrical water engineering team supports clients with the management of their assets. This work can encompass everything from designing complete new build treatments works through to assessing the condition of existing plant and machinery. They play an important role in helping our clients develop new assets or improvements to existing, offering both improved performance and efficiency. 

We will pair you with an experienced engineer who will guide and mentor you through your initial period working on live projects.

Here's what you'll help with:

  • Production of cable calculations, cable schedules, and circuit schedules 
  • Production of lighting designs 
  • Production of MCC/ Control Panel details including ICA information 
  • Production of electrical specification documents 
  • Utilise Amtech, Dialux and Lighting Reality software design programmes 
  • Liaise with internal and external design teams, clients and contractors as appropriate 
  • Provision of timely reporting to both the client and internal team lead. 

Our Mechanical water engineers examine the hydraulics of systems to calculate and specify pump systems, as well as developing plant room layouts. They ensure designs meet the required performance also providing suitable access for operators so that the equipment can be safely maintained, and develop performance specifications and schedules to define all items of equipment, whilst ensuring that they comply with the relevant client and industry standards. They also initiate control philosophies to define how a plant will operate, before collaborating with the other designers. The successful applicants will work closely with other design disciplines and stakeholders, to ensure that the design elements interface correctly, and the design fits all parties requirements. 

Here’s what you’ll help with:

  • Pumping calculations and specifications. 
  • Production of system schematics. 
  • Production of equipment and drive schedules; 
  • Production of engineering specification documents in relation to hydraulics and pump systems; 
  • Working with our clients to assist them with project delivery, asset and network performance and design; 
  • Production of lifting, access and maintenance plans. 
  • Liaise with internal and external design teams, clients and contractors as appropriate; 
  • Provision of timely reporting to both the client and internal team lead.

When an apprentice starts at AECOM, we pair them with a senior member of the team who will guide and mentor them through their initial period working on live projects and business development tasks, to support with any technical queries. We also offer our apprentices the flexibility of working on a range of projects in the various service offerings and technical specialisms that our Practice delivers. This helps establish their areas of interest, and develops a firm sustainability grounding, that will allow our apprentice to choose the direction of their career.

Apprentice Development Programme

In addition to your identified external training provision in Civil Engineering Technician (Level 3) (usually delivered via day release or in block terms) our Apprentice ADVANCE programme is designed to help you build your career in AECOM. You will attend a number of instructor-led training sessions where you will meet and hear from people across the business and take part in a series of interactive activities to equip you with the knowledge and skills you need to succeed in your role.  We will provide you with all the support and tools you need to achieve your professional development ambitions, including Chartership with the relevant international professional institution.  Professional institute qualifications you may be able to work towards include EngTech then IEng acrreditation with ICE.
