We’re looking for a Lead Programmer - Live Services to join our award winning team in Middlesbrough (UK), home to the beautiful North Yorkshire coastline and countryside. 

As a Lead Programmer at Double Eleven, you’ll be Responsible for leading a team of all multiplayer aspects of games from backend/servers and game clients

We can support UK relocation and have a dedicated People team on standby to assist you and your family with every step to us.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead a team of Programmers - both Web and C++ Programmers - responsible for keeping live services up and running and allocate resources to projects depending on need
  • Identify training needs for the team and also help give some hands-on training when required.
  • Help architect, develop and maintain live services for our games
  • Work with the Lead DevOps Engineer to architect and relay needs of project
  • Be one of the primary points of contact for questions and concerns from our team as well as external vendors
  • Collaborate with the QA Department to identify causes for any problems and possibly apply fixes.
  • Work with other department leads and managers to help bring ideas to fruition and address any problems
  • Work closely with the Code Manager & Principal Lead Programmer to report progress
  • Identify cost optimisation opportunities within our infrastructure and code
  • Participation in interviews and assessing potential new hires
  • Managing and mentoring team members around direction, knowledge and applied practice 
  • Plan, create and implement best practice security measures
  • Help create documentation for planned implementations
  • Actively coach team members by engaging with them on PDP’s, 1 to 1’s and support any progression of team members
  • Developing highly efficient code for various projects
  • Help plan, design and code multiplayer features

What we're looking for

  • Direct experience of C++ used in game development
  • Direct experience of Web development.
  • Multiplayer design/development.
  • Knowledge of server infrastructure best practices
  • Knowledge of various backend systems such as PSN/Xbox Live/Nintendo etc
  • Experience and good knowledge of good security practices used in game clients and backend servers.
  • Server side knowledge of how various Web API’s work with consoles
  • Knowledge of technical requirements of modern consoles
  • Good understanding of how backend systems work and their implementation
  • Direct experience of debugging practices
  • Direct experience of of privacy, security and encryption
  • Being able to manage a team effectively
