Salary: £50,000 - £55,000 per annum pro rata Location: Harlow, Hybrid working available, 3 days per week in the Office, 2 days per week at Home - Part time - School Hours, but open to discussion on part time arrangements. About the role:

At the Motability Foundation we are building a future where all disabled people have the transport options to make the journeys they choose. Beyond the Motability Scheme, which continues to be the main method by which we strive to achieve our vision, an increasing element of our grant-making is through a three year £50m portfolio of grant programmes for charities and organisations and we are also investing steadily in our Innovation activities.

Working within a busy team you will be helping our Senior Management Accountant - Programmes to:

  • Support a best-in-class business planning and analysis process that leads us into delivering on our strategic plan.
  • Ensure our management reporting is robust and fit for purpose, helping to instil a culture of continuous improvement and best value.
  • Deliver and clearly communicate budgets, forecasts and periodic reporting which add value through highlighting variances and improvement opportunities.
  • Once our core deliverables are in place there is a large development agenda evaluating our impact measures and supporting incremental investment decisions between individual charitable programmes; and between charitable programmes and social investments and financial returns.

What you will be doing:
  • Producing monthly management reports to deadlines for review by the Senior Management Accountant - Programmes, monitoring KPI’s, identifying key variances against budget and cash flow forecasts for our programmes.
  • As an effective business partner, you will be contributing to a reporting process that is timely and accurate, ensuring buy in from stakeholders, building on and developing existing reporting.
  • Providing high-quality data analytics and reporting that drives evidence-based decision-making, maximising impact and value for money.
  • Helping in the preparation of budgets, forecasts and yearly financial statements.
  • Support financial due diligence on high value grant applications – ensuring that organisations applying for a grant are financially robust.
  • With the team, delivering day to day finance support to non-finance staff, answering their enquiries to promote financial awareness and understanding.
  • The role includes other tasks that may arise from time to time that are appropriate to the role, including providing absence cover for other members of the Management Accounting team as required.

What will make you great in this role?

With consistent attention to detail, you will be driven by curiosity in supporting our programmes team to answer key questions about the organisations we help:

  •  What is the best way to financially quantify the soft-benefits we help our beneficiaries create?
  • What is the marginal cost of the incremental benefit that our programmes are bringing to disabled individuals’ lives?
  • Does an organisation’s application make financial sense and does its control environment appear effective?

With a desire to analyse and explain the financial transactions of the organisation, you will have excellent communication skills. You will be able to work confidently with a range of experienced and non-finance Managers – improving their finance skills and evolving your skills needed to secure buy in, conveying key finance messages and influencing management action.

You will be passionate about building relationships within and across teams to foster a culture of continuous improvement. You will be keen to learn and be proactive, sharing knowledge and information within a strong and busy team. You will need to contribute to team initiatives and team meetings, help others and treat everyone fairly and with respect.

About you:

Must haves:

  • Fully Qualified or studying CIMA / ACCA / ACA.
  • 2-3 years budget and forecast preparation with cost variance analysis.
  • A demonstrable track record of adding value through innovation.
  • Business partnering with non-financial stakeholders.
  • Sage 200 or equivalent accounting package experience.
  • Knowledge of the MS Office Suite including Advanced Excel and Intermediate Word.

Nice to haves:

  • Experience of charity fund accounting, grant accounting, partnerships and allocation mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of SORP.
  • Some exposure to value for money and impact studies.
  • Experience of one or more ERP / ERM systems.
