The role 

This is an exciting opportunity to join our growing business as a senior compliance expert to ensure our company and employees adhere to all regulatory requirements, internal policies and procedures. In this role you will be responsible for compliance monitoring activities across all areas of our business in addition to providing guidance on global compliance requirements related to new products and services with a strong focus on physical commodities. You will report to the General Counsel and will work very closely with key internal stakeholders such as the CEO, CFO, COO and Chief of Staff. The role requires a proactive attitude, a willingness to step into different roles as needed, and the ability to tackle tasks hands-on. Excellent communication skills will be critical for the role together with a drive and motivation to support an expanding, global business across all aspects of compliance.

Key responsibilities include:

 

  • Assess new products and activities to identify possible compliance risks, with a strong focus on physical commodities.
  • Develop and implement compliance policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular compliance risk assessments and audits, identifying areas for improvement, recommending necessary changes and implementation of enhanced compliance processes.
  • Direct, hands-on responsibility for day-to-day compliance functions and processes with a willingness to cover a broad spectrum of compliance matters across all levels, including tasks that may be outside of your usual scope of work.
  • Oversight of compliance policies, controls and processes to prevent and manage compliance-related issues.
  • Collaborate with Legal and HR departments to ensure enforcement of compliance standards.
  • Ensure effective communication and training of compliance matters across all levels of the company.
  • Prepare reports for senior management and external regulatory bodies as appropriate.
  • Keep abreast of regulatory developments and industry best practices related to physical and financial commodities trading.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in commodities and financial compliance advisory.
  • In-depth knowledge of physical and financial commodities trading and associated regulations and market practices.
  • Ability to lead compliance initiatives and drive a strong culture of compliance through active engagement with all stakeholders.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills required for interpreting and implementing regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise workload and judge priority and urgency of requests and issues.
