Job Summary
  • Devise and lead Logistics UK’s policy activity on a range of issues related to decarbonisation across all logistics transport modes, overseen and supported by the Head of Decarbonisation Policy.  
  • Build and display an established level of knowledge across policy areas in the portfolio, proactively monitoring and briefing on new topics.  
  • Work closely with Members, managing relevant Councils and Working Groups, gaining consensus and representing their views to decision makers and the media. 
  • Carry out effective engagement with decision makers and influencers, including government officials and industry stakeholders, to influence policy decisions. 
  • Lead the development of high-quality consultation responses, briefing documents, speaking notes and presentations, for a variety of audiences. You will input and assist in the development of reports, as needed.  
  • Devise and deliver effective presentations to Members and a variety of external stakeholders.  
  • Support the development of media lines on policy topics in the portfolio, and spokesperson on relevant topics. 
  • Collaborate closely with Policy Department colleagues by providing expert support on policy issues and lines to take for their engagement with decision makers and members. 
  • Responsibility for managing Logistics UK engagement in a designated region, including managing the relevant Freight Council(s).  
  • Display effective cross-organisation working to deliver wider business objectives, for example working with Member Relations, Communications and Marketing. 
  • Provide policy expertise to support Logistics UK events on topics relevant to the portfolio.  

Responsibilities
  • To devise and lead activity and engagement to deliver policy goals in the portfolio, with the ability to pick up additional topics as required. 
  • To ensure accuracy in policy information and positions on assigned topics and ensure consensus Member views are accurately represented. 
  • To provide expert policy support across Logistics UK on assigned topics to help deliver wider business goals. 
  • Policy engagement in a designated region, monitoring relevant developments and ensuring Members are appropriately informed.  
  • Act as Secretary to assigned Regional Freight Councils and Working Groups, arranging engagement, speakers and meetings in a variety of forms. 
  • Support junior colleagues within the department, settings tasks and overseeing outputs. Line management responsibility, if opportunity arises. 
  • Demonstrate the Logistics UK’s core values (Excellence, Dynamism, Togetherness, Reputation). 

Requirements

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent. 
  • Persuasive and articulate communication skills, both written, verbal and using presentations. 
  • Ability and confidence to represent Logistics UK externally at the highest levels of government and with media. 
  • A team player able to contribute to Logistics UK’s wider policy, communications and commercial objectives. 
  • Understanding of how public policy is developed and how to influence it. 
  • Interest in logistics issues. 
  • A willingness to travel on a regular basis, as required to fulfil the responsibilities of the role.
