South Kirkby Waste Treatment Facility - Process Engineer

40 hours per week - Mon-Fri

£55,000 per annum

Our site provides waste management services to Wakefield Council under a 25-year waste PFI contract. As part of this we operate a 240,000 tonne per annum capacity Waste Treatment facility at the South Kirkby site comprising of a Residual Waste Treatment Facility (RWTF), Anaerobic Digestion plant (AD), Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) and In-Vessel Composting Facility (IVC).


Reporting to the Site Operations Manager, you’ll be part of a team and have responsibility for the day-to-day control of the facility. You will ensure that critical metrics are monitored, reviewed and acted upon, and that performance targets are met. You will also have a key role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and commercial viability of the plant. You will be expected to support the Operations and other site teams to drive a continued positive change in operational culture and performance and to deliver systematic improvements to the sustainability, reliability, performance, and operational effectiveness of the facility.

Some of your key responsibilities:
• Drive and support a culture of safety excellence
• Coordinating and collaborating with operational colleagues to oversee the day to day technical and process requirements of the facility
• Setting control limits and charts for all key performance parameters and ensuring these are met.
• Ensuring the quality of plant outputs are achieved
• Providing solutions to technical variances including use of root cause analysis and fault finding.
• Daily analysis of plant data to determine optimal operational set up
• Developing, owning and managing a ‘process management system’ for the facility to become the ‘one way of working’
• Developing training and induction material for new and existing colleagues to ensure that high operational standards are met
• Train, coach and develop site staff in all aspects of plant performance
• Regular reporting of plant performance
• Identification and implementation of process improvement opportunities
• Management and assessment of all process changes made to the plant
• Benchmarking wider industries to adopt and implement best practices

• Liaising with regulators to ensure compliance of the facility is achieved

Requirements

Essential criteria for this role:

• You have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to lead, guide and mentor the onsite team
• You are great communicator with the ability to clearly express technical and engineering matters in a way that enables good decision making
• You enjoy being around people and are comfortable communicating with colleagues at all levels within an organisation
• You have a proactive approach to problem solving
• You are a well organised and logical thinker.
• You are numerate and appreciate the importance of accurate operational data collection and analysis
• You are honest, reliable, and always behave with integrity
• You are degree educated in chemical or process engineering and working towards chartered status
• You have 3-5 years of experience in a front-line operational role as a process or chemical engineer
• You have knowledge of Lean methodologies and experience with their application within a process/operational plant environment
