We are looking to recruit an Occupational Therapist in our Glenhurst Lodge (CQC Rating: Good) Mental Health Hospital. To work 5 days per week, between Monday and Friday.

Glenhurst Lodge is a 22 bedded high dependency rehab service for both men and women.

Occupational Therapist Job Purpose:

The aim of this post is to work as a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT). Working within the low secure hospitals and/or locked intensive rehabilitation units.

To carry out specialist OT assessments with each service user. Using the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) as a framework, you will develop and implement occupational therapy intervention focusing on daily living and vocational skills in consultation/conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team and particularly the Senior Occupational Therapist within the hospital.

Some of Your Clinical Duties Will Be:

  • To manage a caseload of in-patients with mental illness who have a forensic history and/or behaviors that challenge
  • To carry out assessments of activities of daily living to determine a patients level of functioning
  • Carrying out Occupational Therapy intervention with patients. Planning individual treatment programmes specific to their needs.
  • To take responsibility for the planning, facilitation and evaluation of the group OT programme within the service
  • To provide a consultative role in the planning and delivering of a ward-based activity programme
  • To provide OT interventions which are ward-based and community-based, promoting social inclusion and recovery
  • To evaluate OT treatment and ensure outcome measures are recorded
  • To take on the role of vocational lead within the hospital

Some of Your Managerial Duties Will Be:

  • To be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Occupational Therapy service within the hospital. Act as Corporate lead and prepare reports and attend Corporate Clinical Governance when required
  • To provide clinical and management supervision to the wider OT team and Technical Instructors
  • To participate in stock taking/ordering of required items within OT department
  • To develop a knowledge of the local community and resources provided for people with a severe mental illness

You Will Need To:

  • Be a registered Occupational Therapist with HCPC (Dip COT, BSc or MSc in Occupational Therapy)
  • Have previous experience of working as an OT in mental health / forensic / hospital setting
  • Have knowledge of the recovery approach, My Shared Pathway, Mental Health Act and relevant legislation and policies.
  • Have the ability to assess clients needs and plan care using the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO)
