About The Role
The Vehicle Fleet Management division is seeking to appoint 2 x Plant & Vehicle Technicians. You will need to have a served a recognised Commercial Vehicle Apprenticeship or have a similar background with relevant Level 3 qualifications. You will be required to diagnose vehicle faults, identify appropriate spares, be proficient in both welding and fabrication, and hold a clean HGV Licence.
This role requires you to participate on a two-shift work pattern. You should also be willing to attend further training to develop your skills, including working towards a Nominated MOT Tester.
You will be required to undertake various repairs and servicing of all mechanical or hand operated plant and approximately 500 vehicles, from cars & vans up to specialist utility type vehicles, operated by the London Borough of Hounslow and its customers. To ensure that all plant, vehicles, and equipment meets Health & Safety legislation and complies with all DVSA current legislation.
Key Responsibilities:
- To ensure provision of effective Fleet support to the Head of Vehicle Fleet Management and services, maintaining filing systems confidentiality in line with Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Goods vehicles (Licensing of Operators) Act 1995, The Motor Vehicles (Tests) (Amendment) (No.2) Regulations 2002.
- To accurately and skilfully undertake the repair of various types of vehicles, whilst detecting and diagnosing any additional faults, enduring that all work is completed safely and to the Council’s and customers complete satisfaction. To undertake service and repair work on all types of vehicles in a safe and economical manner achieving the highest possible standards of workmanship. Carry out repairs to any vehicle within Vehicle Fleet Managements authorisation to DVSA standards.
- To effectively work as a part of the team to ensure industry-leading standards of customer care and satisfaction always. Be able to carry out class 4, 5 & 7 MOT tests and be Quality Controller within DVSA Computerisation systems.
- Carry out any other reasonable task which may arise from time to time and bring to the attention of the Assistant Vehicle Fleet Manager any matter which could be detrimental to the wellbeing of the Council
Your Skills:
- High level of knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plant including diagnostics and repair skills gained within the plant, commercial vehicle, and light goods repair industry.
- Ability to work unsupervised and uses own initiative and prioritise own work.
- High-level communication skills to always communicate effectively in a sensitive and courteous manner.
- Have a good knowledge of Road Transport legislation and MOT testing procedures of all classes of vehicles.
- Have basic computer and keyboard skills.
Professional Qualifications
- You will need to have a served a recognised Commercial Vehicle Apprenticeship or have a similar background with relevant Level 3 vehicle maintenance qualifications.
- Current and clean driving licence with class’s B, C1 & D1 and hold a clean HGV Licence
