Operations Manager

Our clients, based in Liss (near Petersfield) have an exciting opportunity for an Operations Manager to join their growing team.

The business is looking for an automotive specialist to take responsibility for all aspects of operational management, from client and sub-contractor management to workshop planning and motivating a team of skilled technicians. The position has real scope to influence business operations and resulting performance.

The ideal candidate will have a robust operational history and have the desire to grow into commercial management.

Key Responsibilities

Resource Management

  • Employee management, motivation, and communication.
  • Hold daily progress/status meetings.
  • Ensuring compliance with document driven safety/QC processes
  • Manage team training and development programmes.
  • Staff appraisals and performance management

Project and Resource Planning

  • Detailed planning of long-term larger scale projects - Identifying resource requirements by discipline
  • Subcontractor scheduling and booking in line with project requirements.
  • Ensure accurate costing of all projects at parts, labour and subcontract levels.
  • Identification of generic and project specific part requirements, and communicating with internal/external suppliers
  • Identifying resource surplus/shortfall and highlighting risks to leadership team

Reporting Responsibilities

  • Initial project plans and monthly reforecasts
  • Project tracking and identification of scope creep. Reporting on out-of-scope items/activity
  • Weekly updates to leadership team on all workshop activity and projects status
  • Final works order review and contribution to invoice process where appropriate
  • Project closure reporting, ensure learnings are fed back into current/new projects as appropriate.
  • Workshop overview reporting to identify future resource availability and workshop booking slots.

Client management

  • Dealing with client booking enquiries and scheduling business as usual workshop activity
  • Advising, estimating, and upselling all aspects of vehicle work with clients
  • Onsite management of clients for collection, delivery, and review
  • Managing client expectations and communicating continually throughout various stages of work

Experience and Required Skills

  • Automotive engineering experience essential
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Creative and adaptive personality, resilient and a change agent
  • Analytical skills with the ability to measure and report performance.
  • 5 years+ experience within a similar/related role, ideally in an owner managed SME
