Design Engineer Solidworks

This Design Engineer role comes with some project management responsibilities. The role is a fantastic opportunity to become an integral part of a progressive, family-owned SME based in Shrewsbury.

The Role:
The company are a market leader in their sector offering a competitive salary, support and career opportunities. Within this role you will be responsible for leading the design team, creating technical drawings for clients and suppliers alongside providing technical direction/supervision and support to colleagues, fabricators, sub-contractors and clients for the installation of steel canopies and outdoor structures.
Key Tasks and responsibilities:
- Utilise CAD software to create detailed designs and engineering drawings.
- Coordinate and work with external designers.
- Conduct design reviews and provide technical guidance to ensure specification and efficiencies are considered for both manufacturing and installation.
- Offer technical telephone support to fitters as required.
- Attend remote pre-start and other meetings via Teams
Requirements:
- Strong 3D CAD skills for developing 3D designs, assemblies, and engineering drawings to approved standard for in house and external customers plus visualisations and BOMs etc
- Certified in SolidWorks or an equivalent software.
- Some Project management experience
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues and engage with customers and suppliers across all levels
- Able to prioritise tasks effectively and perform under pressure within tight deadlines.
- Quick learner, adept at acquiring new skills and adapting to new computer systems promptly.
- Experience in identifying problems and identifying solutions in technical and business areas.
- Proven experience in design engineering with strong portfolio showcasing successful projects
- Construction/steel fabrication related background
- Driving Licence
- Prepared to travel as required
Additional tasks:
- Carry out site surveys on schools and other public buildings across the UK
- New product development
Desirable Skills / Experience:
- SSSTS / SMSTS
- DBS
- CSCS qualified
- Mechanical Engineering Masters degree
In return, as Design Engineer you will receive a salary of between £45k to £50k per annum. Hours of work are Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm (flexibility will be needed to support site activity and some travelling).
