We are delighted to be Recruiting for a Legal Counsel position for a Global Assurance provider based in Birmingham! The Legal Counsel whose remit is to provide commercial legal services to the UK and European business and so would suit a lawyer with significant experience in commercial contracting including SaaS/software contracts, professional services, Supplier, and consulting contracts. The business operates in over 51 countries with 60,000 clients with an excellent reputation for helping these clients grow, consolidate, and take the led with all assurance and operational needs.
The successful Legal Counsel's role will also include the disposal of straightforward litigation matters and the management of external law firms to assist with any more complex cases, assisting the Head of Risk and Compliance with internal investigations in the region, working as part of a team on boarding our new acquisitions.
Responsibilities:

  • The main function of this role would be to provide commercial legal services to the UK and European business and so would suit a lawyer with significant experience in commercial contracting including SaaS/software contracts, professional services, Supplier and consulting contracts.
  • The role will also include the disposal of straightforward litigation matters and the management of external law firms to assist with any more complex cases, assisting the Head of Risk and Compliance with internal investigations in the region, working as part of a team onboarding our new acquisitions; the provision of oversight and support to the global insurance programme (although in the case of the latter we would expect this to be a growth area) and the provision of generic legal advice/signposting to key stakeholders.
  • This is a growth role and as such we will be looking for someone who is keen to develop experience across a broad suite of disciplines, countries and sectors and who is prepared to learn new skills and embrace new opportunities.

Personal specification:

  • Admitted to practice law in England and Wales. 6 to 10 years PQE, some in house would be desirable.
  • Significant experience of drafting and negotiating a broad range of commercial contracts, including frameworks, consultancy agreements, SaaS, and software agreements and supplier contracts. A keen interest in or experience of the ESG sector would be an advantage.
  • Experience of advising and influencing senior leaders and peers.
  • Experience of creating and delivering engaging training and communication content.
  • Strong business partnering capability- demonstrable experience of working with growth businesses to implement and realise strong governance/commercial practices
