Acorn by Synergie is recruiting for a Head of Cancer and Palliative Care, for our client within the public sector in Hertfordshire. To oversee the operational delivery of cancer services. Someone who is passionate and has extensive experience in this field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting delivery of cancer services in accordance with national waiting time standards
  • Identifying need for improvement and support clinical and operational teams to develop and deliver recovery / improvement plans and services change.
  • Engage with clinical and operational staff to recover performance and deliver improvement programmes.
  • Proactively drive the strategic agenda for Cancer, acting as a subject matter expert
  • Have oversight and a detailed understanding of the national planning and performance objectives that fall within the annual planning guidance. Interpret the ask and translating into delivery plans in conjunction with Clinical and Operational Service Leads.
  • Remain up to date with the national agenda and drivers for cancer including the intentions set out in the NHS long term plan, horizon scanning for future initiatives and priorities.
  • Work autonomously, acting a senior leader within the organisation. This will involve motivating and empowering clinical and operational teams to deliver Cancer improvement, negotiating and influencing others on a broader level than the Cancer Team.
  • This is a cross divisional role that will also include links with tertiary centres. Creating and maintaining cross relationships across the organisation and outside of the Trust will be essential.
  • On call duties - to participate in the Senior Managers on call rota.

Qualifications

  • Management degree or equivalent experience.

Experience

  • Extensive experience within Cancer services
  • Senior level management experience within the NHS or a similar environment.

Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of NHS cancer targets, waiting time rules, stratified pathways, COSD, and national audits.

Skills

  • Proven ability to identify, scope, and implement service improvements.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick, informed decisions.
