Quality Engineer

Balfour Beatty VINCI is proud to be designing and building a 90KM stretch of the West Midlands section of HS2. We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Quality Engineer within the Quality Team.

This role will be based on site in Berkswell, Solihull.

With 13km of rural high-speed line Sublot 2B extends North from Dalehouse Embankment, through Warwickshire between Coventry and Kenilworth, Balsall Common and Burton Green to the River Blythe.

The strategy for Sublot 2B is to deliver the main structures enabling full connectivity across the two Network Rail corridor crossing – the Coventry to Leamington Spa Line and the West Coast Mainline at Carol Green.

While supporting the mass haul of materials from Sublot 2A to Sublot 2B and onward to Sublot 5 South.

The role aims to assist the Balfour Beatty Vinci joint venture, working on HS2 deliver a world class railway in accordance with customer and stakeholder requirements and commitments, including verification activities to demonstrate compliance.

Also responsible to assist the co-ordination, submission, compliance and management of all assurance activities and the resolution of assurance related issues

Experience required

• Experience of Major Civil Engineering projects, preferably tunnelling, railways.

• Extensive experience of construction in the UK Nuclear,Railway and Highways sector

• Knowledge and experience of working to UK and international standards and codes of practice for the UK Nuclear, Railway and Highways sector.

• Quality subject matter expertise and proven track record in Quality Management

Our work with HS2 Balfour Beatty VINCI have been awarded a 90km section of the HS2 project from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Overall, we will be building the following across all our sites:

• 42 viaducts totalling over 11km

• 66 overbridges

• More than 35 cuttings reaching over 30km

• 56 culverts • 66 embankments reaching over 33km

• Building four motorway crossings requiring box structures

• Six interfaces with the existing rail requiring both dive-under and overbridge structures

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Utilities Quality Engineer within the Utilities team. This role will be based on site in Based in Coventry. The strategy for Sublot 2B is to deliver the main structures enabling full connectivity across the two Network Rail corridor crossings – the Coventry to Leamington Spa Line and the West Coast Mainline at Carol Green – alongside supporting the mass haul of materials between sublots.

Role description:

• To assist the Balfour Beatty Vinci joint venture, working on HS2 deliver a world class railway in accordance with customer and stakeholder requirements and commitments, including verification activities to demonstrate compliance.
• To assist the co-ordination, submission, compliance and management of all assurance activities and the resolution of assurance related issues To ensure implementation BBV procedures to provide evidence of “self-assurance” including submissions from the supply chain and establishing test and inspection plans for delivery of the works.
• To assist the Construction teams, coordinate with Statutory Undertakers, Network Rail, Rail Systems contractors, Enabling Works contractors and Others throughout the design and construction of the works.

Experienced required:

• Experience in the management of QMS on major projects in the construction industry.
• Experience of Technical Assurance (compliance requirements), Handover (Quality Record Packages) and Certification.
• Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma.
• ISO 9001 Audit Experience Key Skills and Knowledge.
• Ability to anticipate potential quality risks and implement or process preventive measures to limit these risks.
• Experienced in the use of project information tools and management systems including MS Office and web-based collaboration technologies for project information and process management, such as IBM Doors. Safety Committed (CSCS card, SMSTS or similar).
• Driving license.
