We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Trainee Highways Inspector. In this role, you will be trained to assess the condition of highways, ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations.

You will work alongside experienced inspectors to learn about inspection techniques, data collection methods, and reporting procedures. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in a career in civil engineering, construction, or transportation infrastructure.

Purpose of the role and your responsibilities;

  • Highway Safety Inspections as required by S58 of the Highways Act.
  • Inspection and prioritisation of highway defects.
  • Carrying out routine safety inspections along inspection routes.
  • Carrying inspections of defects or inquiries made by the public.
  • Full training will be given with this role.

Formal qualifications required;

  • Full UK driving licence

Skills required;

  • Good standard of English required.
  • Ability to forward plan and see the bigger picture.
  • High level of IT skills required across various platforms: CONFIRM, MS OFFICE esp. Excel (understanding of advanced features advantageous).
  • Competent in computer and tablet use.

Personal qualities;

  • An ability to work to a schedule of tight deadlines.
  • Flexible approach to support the wider team as workload dictates.
  • Highly organised.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Adaptable attitude to workflow with ability to prioritise and reactively reorganise works when required.
  • Excellent communication skill both verbally and in writing.
  • Proven ability to work in a small team and be prepared to pitch in when required.
