About the role of a Science Teacher - Lambeth

  • Ensure that all students assigned to the post holder receive quality instruction and learning opportunities.
  • Supervise the work of any support staff assigned to the post holder's students, including teaching assistants and support teachers.
  • Provide support to the department head.
  • Preparation of teaching and learning materials
  • Managing their classroom's health and safety and behaviour
  • Keeping an eye on quality and standards, and reporting on them
  • Taking part in departmental planning and self-evaluation
  • Supporting other teachers and support staff with professional development
  • Providing advice to the Head of Department on appropriate resources and materials
  • Contributing to and leading science events for students at the school and in the wider community
  • Offering guidance and advice to pupils regarding their educational and career goals.

Ideally, the successful candidate for this permanent Science Teacher position will teach Key Stages 3 - 4. The ideal Science Teacher/Teacher of Science should be passionate about the curriculum and have a strong desire to improve the teaching of topics in order to spark student interest and spark the interest of the students. Qualifications for a Science Teacher

  • 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C), or equivalent, including Science, English, and Maths.
  • An Undergraduate Education degree or a degree in a science subject, such as biology, physics or chemistry and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). This is usually included as part of a PGCE course.
  • In-school teaching experience, gained through your Teacher training.
  • Fluent level of spoken and written English.
