Our client is a leading manufacturer of specialist industrial protective equipment that compasses clothing and footwear sold globally. They are currently looking for a talented Polymer Chemist with proven experience to join a collaborative and innovative team. 

As a Polymer Chemist, you will be responsible for the research and development of new Footwear products and materials and the investigation of technical issues. 

The successful candidate will have strong technical laboratory skills and an excellent understanding of Polymer materials with a passion to push the boundaries of Polymer chemistry.

Responsibilities of the Polymer Chemist:

  • Adjustment of Polymer formulations and troubleshooting of adhesives and elastomer materials. 
  • Plan and carry out complex research projects, such as the development of new footwear products and materials. 
  • Evolution of existing products and processes. 
  • Data analysis, processing, reporting and drafting technical manuals for use by Customers and Colleagues. 
  • Repair/ maintenance of laboratory equipment. 
  • Operation of test equipment to enable assessment of product performance. 
  • Material Processing and Injection Moulding. 
  • Mixing of new materials on a two-roll mill or on a twin screw compounding extruder. 
  • Ensure products comply with current regulations and quality requirements, through establishing control specifications and testing procedures as agreed with departmental manager.
  • Encouraging and building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members. 

Polymer Chemist Candidate Profile:

  • Polymer Technology/ Chemistry/ Engineering/ Material Science degree or similar qualification in a related field. 
  • Experience with Polymer Technology/ Injection Moulding desirable. 
  • Practical knowledge of Rubber and Plastic processing, including Injection moulding, mixing, calendaring, compression moulding and compounding desirable. 
  • Knowledge of footwear testing and manufacturing would be an advantage but not essential. 
  • Knowledge of the laws of Physics and their interrelationships, to understand mechanical and electrical applications. 
  • Strong ability to analyse data, make judgements and decision using various MS applications. 

In return, our client is offering a salary range of £28,000 - £50,000 depending on experience for this Polymer Chemist position.
