Balfour Beatty Vinci has an exciting opportunity for a SCL Section Engineer to join our our Cross passages team on the Long Itchington Wood tunnelling team. Role Purpose: To provide management and control of a section of works and team comprising Site Engineers management of sub contractors focusing on SCL and Concrete activities for the construction of Tunnels cross passages.

What you'll be doing:

  • Liaise with designer to resolve technical issues
  • Understands cost and value
  • Drafts correspondence to sub-contractors, suppliers and Client
  • Capable of taking ownership of tasks and communicating outcomes with clarity, including managing others in this regard
  • Able to work on own initiative and seek out opportunities in line with level of responsibility
  • Excellent team player, able to work competently and independently without continuous supervision

Who we're looking for:

  • Civil Engineering experience in SCL and Tunnels
  • Holds a valid CSCS
  • Has a UK driving licence
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or similar

Balfour Beatty VINCI is working with a range of organisations to design and build 90km West Midlands stretch of HS2 - Britain’s new high speed railway.. Our work is essential to enable HS2 trains to travel between London and Birmingham as well as continue their journey up to Manchester. It’s an incredibly exciting time to join us - we’re at peak construction with work really ramping up on a broad range of assets including bridges, tunnels and viaducts. Plus you’d join 9,000 people across 72 nationalities working on this exciting section of HS2 across the region.


This role will be based on-site in in Water Orton/Coleshill. Delta Junction will cover a 14 KM stretch within the Water Orton/Coleshill area. The sublot will be responsible for major structures including bridges, viaducts & embankments.

What you'll be doing

• Preparing and raising Temporary Works Briefs, following up to ensure timely implementation

• Completing Accident Book and associated reports as required, undertaking incident investigations to required standard when needed

• Undertaking and mentoring junior staff in safety audits

• Carrying out complex setting out and mentoring and coaching junior engineers in the use of setting out techniques

• Producing Activity Control Plans / Inspection and Test Plans and obtaining approval

• Identifying, raising and actioning Non-Conformance Reports and Technical Queries with possible solutions.

• Communicating weekly programme targets to the workforce and liaising with subcontractors to ensure works undertaken in line with the weekly programme

• Collating Weekly Measure information and monitoring wastage against budget allowances / KPI™s

• Identifying items of additional work and raising the necessary notifications

• Programming is beyond the week's work and up to 5 ahead.

Experienced required

• Degree level qualification in a Civil Engineering allied subject or HND in Civil Engineering is desirable

• Previous experience working as a Section Engineer on a large-scale civils/infrastructure project, for a main contractor or subcontractor

• Good knowledge and experience on Major Projects
