Senior Test Engineer

About the Role: Are you ready to take on an exciting challenge in the defence sector? Join our clients dynamic team as a Senior Test Engineer, where you will play a pivotal role in vehicle-based military tests, collaborating directly with customers to execute trials on a variety of military vehicles. This is an opportunity to manage projects that span multiple testing disciplines, from powertrain to full vehicle dynamic tests.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and supervise test activities within a dedicated team of engineers and technicians.
- Develop and manage project timing plans to meet deadlines.
- Liaise with customers, test authorities, and various departments to ensure specific requirements are met.
- Plan and organise resources, including off-site test facilities.
- Report test results and anomalies in a timely manner.
- Continuously improve processes, procedures, equipment, and facilities.
- Provide off-site support when needed.
- Specify data capture needs and develop test scenarios.
- Conduct analysis, validate data, and lead investigations to resolve technical issues.
- Ensure a safe working environment and adhere to company standards.
- Essential Experience:
- Vehicle testing
- General data acquisition understanding
- Knowledge of sensor types, electronics, circuitry, and vehicle mechanical systems
- Desirable Experience:
- Military vehicle approval process standards and regulations
- Project management of vehicle system requirement and compliance programmes
- Comparative vehicle assessment and benchmarking
- Writing system requirements for vehicles
- Understanding military projects and vehicle network systems (e.g., CAN)
- Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline (or equivalent)
- Chartered engineer status (or working towards it)
- Full UK driver’s licence (additional categories like HGV, PSV desirable)
- Strong engineering background with a willingness to learn
- Confident in customer interactions
- Team player with excellent organisational and analytical skills
- Proficient in MS Office and solid communication skills
- Knowledgeable in Safety & Environmental management processes
- Confident communicator and change agent
- Highly motivated, punctual, and well-organised
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Forward-thinking with a right-first-time attitude
- Able to work under pressure and embrace a zero-blame culture
- Flexible, adaptable, and willing to travel (up to 30% of work off-site within the UK)
- Willing to undergo a Criminal Disclosure check
- Full UK driving licence
- Ability to hold valid security clearance (SC), requiring British nationality and residency in the UK for the last 5 years
