Job Overview:

A well-respected UK building / construction business is currently looking for an experienced and motivated Management Accountant to join their team on a permanent contract.

The Management Accountant will be working closely with the Head of Finance to play a pivotal role in overseeing and supporting the financial aspects of the company.

You will be responsible for producing monthly management accounts, assisting in year-end audits, producing journals and supporting project work.

You will ensure the accuracy of financial records and contribute to the overall success of the business.

The Management Accountant position will involve occasional travel to the Head Office when required for meetings and projects.

Responsibilities & Duties include:

  • Supporting in the development of financial models for budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning.
  • Analysing financial data and providing insights to support decision-making processes.
  • Working with AP/AR to facilitate a smooth month-end process.
  • Taking ownership of the monthly ledger close process, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Preparing accurate and timely management accounts, including balance sheet reconciliations and month-end journals.
  • Ensuring compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Monitoring and managing cash flow to optimise liquidity and support operational needs.
  • Working closely with external auditors to ensure accurate and timely completion of audits.
  • Leading and mentoring finance department staff.
  • Helping to prepare the monthly management accounts pack.
  • Assisting the Head of Finance with enforcement of internal financial control procedures, including training members of staff on financial controls processes, devising internal control processes, and performing regular internal checks and reporting them to the Head of Finance.
  • Defining accounting processes, actively seek, recommend and implement improvements.
  • Assisting the Head of Finance in performing their role by efficiently performing all the roles above.
  • Any other tasks that are reasonably assigned to you by the Head of Finance.

Essential requirements for this position:

  • A Degree in finance, accounting, or a related field
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in financial management roles
  • Strong financial modelling and analytical skills
  • Proficient in financial reporting and accounting software
  • Excellent knowledge of financial regulations and compliance standards
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proactive and results-oriented with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • High level of integrity and ethical conduct

Desirable skills, experience and qualifications include:

  • Professional certification (e.g., ACCA, ICAEW, CIMA)
  • Experience in the energy or sustainability sector
  • Experience of ERP software systems considered
  • Experience of internal and/ or external audit processes is advantageous
