An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Cost Engineer to join the Procurement department in a rapidly expanding and exciting work environment. As part of a developing cost engineering function within Fortescue ZERO, you will be a key member responsible for driving cost improvement ideas throughout the product life cycle, advising & implementing best practice in the cost engineering team, commercial, design & procurement functions alike, from concept through to serial production.

Job role:

  • In depth understanding of various processes associated with complex commodities. An expert in several process types & commodities is key.
  • Delivering robust detailed and directional Should Costs (estimates).
  • To participate in the process of supplier selection and supplier strategy planning.
  • Support the development of should cost models by commodity group suitable for anticipated production volumes. Able to generate bespoke cost models to suit supplier processes from scratch.
  • Identify & drive material/process/layout improvements that can be promoted as product cost reduction ideas.
  • Ability to identify and discuss cost gaps with suppliers, taking the lead in negotiating cost reduction ideas or gaps to expectation with use of supporting market data.
  • Development of process improvements within the cost engineering, procurement & engineering functions to support a cohesive teamworking environment. (Stakeholder engagement is essential to driving improvement)
  • As part of a developing function within Fortescue ZERO you will be expected to be a role model and inspire others to excel in professional behaviour and technical expertise.

You’ll have:

  • Strong knowledge of low & high-volume manufacturing processes and associated commercial cost drivers.
  • Experience in developing electrical & mechanical commodities alike.
  • Able to review and understand technical proposals, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Can utilise CAD modelling software (Siemens Teamcenter or similar) to support identifying cost drivers.
  • Experience in using cost modelling software’s to create bottom up should costs.
  • Tooling cost driver knowledge also essential.
  • Ability to identify gaps in knowhow, willing to learn and develop knowledge of new commodities.
  • Capable of developing and sharing cost engineering best practice methods with stakeholders.
  • Able to manage multiple projects.
  • A good understanding of cross functional roles within the procurement/supply chain structure would be beneficial.
  • The ability to demonstrate cross functional teamwork is critical.
  • Analysing and interpreting numerical data and reaching sound judgments and recommendations
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under own initiative and under pressure, in a controlled manner.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Able to present logical findings to various stakeholders key (Microsoft Excel and office skills)
  • Supplier visits are part of the role, so a clean driving license is essential.
