HGV Technician

Job Summary:

The HGV Technician will be responsible for performing preventive maintenance, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on heavy goods vehicles. The role requires adherence to safety standards and regulations, ensuring vehicles are operating efficiently and safely.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Maintenance and Repairs:

   • Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake inspections.
   • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in HGVs.
   • Conduct inspections to identify potential problems and ensure vehicle compliance with safety standards..

2. Parts and Inventory Management:

   • Manage inventory of parts and equipment.
   • Order new parts as needed and ensure proper storage and handling.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Education and Training:

  • A diploma or certification in automotive technology or a related field.
  • Apprenticeship or on-the-job training in heavy vehicle maintenance and repair.

• Experience:

  • Proven experience as an HGV technician or similar role.
  • Familiarity with various makes and models of heavy goods vehicles.
  • NVQ Level 3 (desirable) 

• Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency with diagnostic equipment and tools.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.

• Soft Skills:

  • Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license; HGV license may be preferred or required.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., ASE certification) can be advantageous.

Working Conditions:

• Typically work in repair shops or garages.
• May involve working in various weather conditions if repairs are needed on-site.
• Physical demands include lifting heavy parts and equipment, standing for long periods, and performing manual tasks.
