Project Engineer (Electrical)

Sector: Renewable Energy

Contract: 12-18 months

Rate: Excellent

Location: Hybrid (4 days in Central London/on site, 1 day home office)

Required Experience: 5-10 years in renewables, grid, or energy generation (e.g., gas peaking plants, energy storage, wind, solar)

Responsibilities:

Design Coordination:

  • Oversee electrical engineering design packages.
  • Manage and resolve design issues.
  • Lead design coordination meetings.
  • Update project team on design progress.
  • Ensure timely and accurate delivery of design deliverables.

Document Control:

  • Manage and ensure correct use of all electrical drawings and calculations.

Communication:

  • Relay design information between contractors and site teams.
  • Conduct regular site visits during the construction phase.

Design Development:

  • Support future project designs and contractor evaluations for battery and hydrogen-ready gas plants.

Owner’s Engineer Role:

  • Review and approve electrical design work.
  • Conduct earthing designs, protection, fault levels, and grid studies.

High-Level Specification:

  • Provide specifications for transformers, switchgear, etc.
  • Represent the company in meetings with stakeholders.

Additional Skills (Preferred):

  • Knowledge of 275kV substation design and electrical safety up to 400kV.
  • Experience with gas peaking plant construction.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD 2D and 3D CAD Design.
  • Ability to liaise with DNOs and National Grid.
