Expleo Engineering is working on behalf of one of the world's largest Automotive manufacturers to recruit a Materials Engineer with experience in Metals, based in Bedfordshire on a contract basis. You will carry out work necessary to deliver metal material design and homologation tasks, on Body in White (BIW).

Responsibilities of the Materials Engineer include:

* Metallic materials design and development for all vehicle projects
* Analyse material properties, manufacturability, and cost to select the best metals
* Stay up to date on the latest advancements in metal materials, forming processes and joining techniques
* Analyse material properties such as strength, weight, corrosion resistance, formability, and recyclability to determine suitability
* Participate in design reviews and provide technical expertise to ensure manufacturability and functionality.
* Collaborate with design engineers and manufacturing teams to ensure optimal material selection and integration into vehicle production processes
* Lead or participate in laboratory testing of new and existing metal materials to verify performance and identify potential issues
* Undertake new material introductions at the manufacturing plant, market surveys, performance benchmarking and target setting
* Produce technical reports and presentations, summarising research findings and recommendations
* Data gathering, analysis, and reporting

Skills and experience required for the Materials Engineer position:

* Ideally degree educated in mechanical engineering, metallurgical engineering or a related industry
* Extensive experience of metallic materials applied in the automotive industry
* Experience of vehicle construction technologies, steel, and aluminium materials
* Knowledge of metallic materials, especially sheet steel and aluminium for automotive construction
* Strong understanding of metal properties, forming processes (e.g., stamping, welding), and joining techniques
* Skilled in supplier management
* Automotive OEM experience is desirable
* Driving licence valid in the UK/EU is essential
