Position: Fostering Social Worker (Locum)
Location: Bedford Borough Council
Pay Rate: £38 per hour
Working Arrangement: Hybrid (2 days a week in the office, flexible working for the rest)

About the Role:
Bedford Borough Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Fostering Social Worker to join our dynamic team. As a locum social worker, you will play a crucial role in supervising foster carers, providing them with the support, training, and guidance they need to offer exceptional care to children and young people. Additionally, you will be responsible for assessing new applicants who wish to become foster carers, ensuring they meet the high standards required to provide a safe and nurturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervision of Foster Carers: Regularly meet with and support foster carers, addressing any concerns and providing necessary training to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Assessment of New Applicants: Conduct thorough assessments of prospective foster carers, including home visits, interviews, and background checks, to ensure they are suitable for fostering.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other professionals within the council, including social workers, healthcare providers, and educational staff, to ensure a holistic approach to the welfare of children in care.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all interactions and assessments, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and council policies.
  • Crisis Intervention: Provide timely and effective support during crises, offering practical solutions and emotional support to foster carers and children.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Social Worker: Hold a degree in Social Work and be registered with Social Work England.
  • Experience: Demonstrated experience in fostering and adoption services, including supervising foster carers and assessing new applicants.
  • Skills: Strong communication, assessment, and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment: A genuine passion for improving the lives of children and supporting foster carers in providing high-quality care.
  • Social Work England Registration: Must be registered with Social Work England.

Immediate Start: We are looking for someone to start as soon as possible. Due to the urgency of this role, there are extremely limited interview windows.
