Thrive Oldham are recruiting a Multi Skilled Operative for the Rochdale Area

Principal Duties

  1. To ensure all Ground works undertaken, including but not inclusive of the installation of ramps/steps, flagging/paving, and drainage, within the control of the operative, is carried out in a proper manner and in accordance with the required standards and legislation.
  2. To undertake multi trade works to a high standard, such as, but not inclusive of, brickwork, roofing repairs, basic joinery, plastering and redecoration.
  3. To carry out reactive and planned works throughout the Borough of Rochdale, in both a domestic and commercial setting, on a wide variety of building types and premises.
  4. To occasionally undertake works in potentially higher risk environments and properties.
  5. To carry out works in association with the councils Home Improvement Agency (HIA).
  6. To undertake any additional tasks that are within the remit, and/or skillset, of the existing role.
  7. To undertake the pre - measurement of jobs, for the purpose of ordering materials, and assisting Team Leaders with quotations.
  8. To work with the MPS team leaders to ensure a high quality service is provided at all times.
  9. Work on an individual basis, using own initiative and with minimal supervision, following the councils lone working procedures.
  10. Work alongside other trades to carry out larger projects, ensuring safe systems of work are followed at all times.
  11. To ensure that safe and responsible methods of working are employed and followed at all times in accordance with current health and safety legislation through reading, understanding and helping to produce risk assessments, safe systems of work and method statements with team leaders.
  12. Ability to be able to recognise other defects when carrying out job specific tasks and inform the relevant personnel.
  13. To work at height when the role requires.
  14. To work in low risk confined spaces when the role requires.
  15. Due to the nature and demands of the role, be in a physically fit condition to undertake these tasks.
  16. Undertake works in both internal and external environments and a variety of weather conditions.
  17. To use the council's asset management software, and designated mobile technology, to accurately detail all costs associated with the task, ensuring completed work tickets are sent back to team leaders for approval on a daily basis.
  18. To ensure all work tickets are completed within given timescales and agreed costs.
  19. To prioritise individual workloads, using the job status and priority provided by the asset management software as reference.
  20. To ensure all relevant timesheets are completed on a weekly basis, and sent to team leaders for approval.
  21. Communicate and liaise in a professional manner with members of the public, clients and external stakeholders.
  22. To undertake, and hold, an enhanced DBS check with children barred.
  23. To undertake, and provide evidence of, a daily pre-use inspection of designated MPS fleet vehicles.
  24. To use power tools associated with the trade, safely at all times, carrying out visual inspections before use and reporting defects to team leaders.
  25. Ensure PPE is used and maintained correctly in line with current health and safety legislation.
  26. To assist in the training of apprentices.
  27. Have responsibility as a key holder for the council's assets, as and when required to carry out work related tasks.

Secondary Duties

  1. To participate in Council programmes of in-service training as a trainee and when required as a trainer facilitator.
  1. To undertake such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature as may be determined from time to time by the Service Head (or nominated representative) in consultation with the postholder (and if he/she so wishes, with his/her Trade Union representative).
  1. Provide temporary cover for the team leader role, as may be required, to maintain the delivery of the service during exceptional circumstances.

£15.43 per hour
