Piling Design Engineer   

This challenging and exciting opportunity requires an experienced piling, foundations or ground / geotechnical engineering design professional.

Our client is a market leading piling and geotechnical ground engineering contractor. Their service offering includes restricted access and open sites, and covers all disciplines of piling techniques, basement construction and new build foundations, combined with numerous additional ground improvement and stabilisation disciplines, all of which is provided for a wide variety of project and sector applications. Our client endeavours not only to complete projects successfully and to the highest of standards, but also to add value to their customers by offering total support through all phases of the project lifecycle.

Due to a significant increase in contracts awards and workload, and a dedication to continued profitable, long-term growth our client is now seeking to appoint an experienced Piling Design Engineer who will be accountable for producing a wide range of foundations, piling and ground / geotechnical engineering designs in line with client specification and industry / company best practice standards.

The Role

  • Add to the team whilst ensuring that you play an active part in delivering high quality piling, foundations and geotechnical / ground engineering design solutions against business and client targets
  • To challenge and review all elements of design, to be proactive and identify potential to reduce risk and improve efficiency wherever possible
  • To produce high quality material, identifying constraints and improvements which can impact on quality, whilst regularly updating planners and project teams to ensure timescales are achievable without compromising quality
  • Actively promote and demonstrate the Group’s core values through day to day work and look to co-operate and communicate with other staff across the business and all relevant teams in the ideology of adding most value in every area of work to assist in the efficient and successful design of all schemes
  • Working with the estimating and pre-contract teams to help control the build up and timely submission of designs for tenders
  • Prepare regular reports on design performance to assist in decision making
  • Participate in regular review meetings with the relevant teams developing a pro-active focus upon client expectations and contract design delivery
  • Co-ordinate and add design / engineering value at the bid stage of new schemes
  • To participate in regular progress meetings for presentations to the relevant management
  • Be an integral member of the design department
  • Ensure that designs adhere to policies in line with business objectives and ensure the company complies with legal requirements and best practice procedures
  • Take responsibility for meeting your own targets, whilst managing risks effectively and delivering all agreed outputs, within the company ideals
  • To ensure that any issues ongoing as a result of any design improvement and / or change initiatives are managed effectively to the requirement of company procedure and remain of prime importance
  • To liaise with other relevant individuals within the company with regard to operating policy

The Person

  • Able to demonstrate a proven track record in the design of piles, foundations and / or geotechnical / ground engineering contracts, either from a pre-contract or operational delivery perspective
  • Ability to join an existing and established business and contribute to various design areas in a manner with enthusiasm and drive
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, being able to relate to people at all levels in an organisation and to establish and maintain respect both professionally and personally
  • To have previous experience of multi discipline geotechnical contracts design, coupled with familiarity with the relevant technical specification requirements / codes / standards
  • Disciplined experience of regular reporting procedures
  • Must possess an excellent understanding of what is required to be a member of a design department in a fast paced environment, with the ability to manage and deliver the daily design processes
  • To have previous experience of working in a client / end user focused environment
  • Expertise to benchmark, understand best practice, and collate then analyse information on contracts and the client
  • Ensuring maximisation of business return through design proposals, whilst maintaining and developing internal and external client relationships via high levels of service
  • Be able to operate hands-on in a non-confrontational manner and thrive in a team-orientated environment
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to successfully manage client relations
  • Ability to promote alternative solutions through design / engineered innovation and implementation of new concepts
  • Proven experience of networking or communicating with clients and / or their advisors
