CK Group are working in partnership with STORM Therapeutics to recruit an Associate Scientist/Scientist - Assay Sciences to join their Discovery Biology Department within the Assay Development team. This is a permanent position based in Cambridge at the Babraham Research Campus.

STORM Therapeutics is a clinical stage biotechnology company working at the forefront of an emerging field of biology, creating novel therapies that inhibit RNA modifying enzymes for use in oncology and other diseases with high unmet medical need. STORM’s lead clinical program STC-15 is a first-in-class inhibitor of METTL3 and is the first ever RNA methyl transferase inhibitor to enter clinical development.

 

Reporting to the Principal Scientist (Assay Sciences), this is an excellent opportunity for an early career candidate to continue developing their skills and grow within an exciting drug discovery research environment.

The role is likely to be varied but key responsibilities will include:

  • Competently design and execute a range of optimised in vitro cell-based studies to support high-throughput screening, orthogonal screening, and mechanism of action studies.
  • Work with Contract Research Organisations (CROs) and partners to ensure successful assay transfer to their labs and support ongoing external screening activities as required.
  • Analyse and share critical interpretation of experimental results, including troubleshooting and next step proposals.
  • Present results in project team meetings and contribute to internal literature review meetings.
  • Maintain an electronic lab note-book and records of experiments and assist in the preparation of standard operating procedures and risk assessments.

To be considered for the position you should have the following:

  • BSc or equivalent in a relevant Biological Science discipline.
  • Around 1-2 years laboratory experience, preferably within an industrial setting.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience of cell culture/aseptic technique and a range of biochemical, biophysical and/or cellular assay techniques (Examples could include Western Blots, genetic knockdown by siRNA or CRISPR, compound profiling, immunofluorescence imaging assays or qRT-PCR)
  • Competent in Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Experience of using relevant data handling/ELN software is desirable (eg Dotmatics, GraphPad Prism)
  • Passionate and self-motivated with a keen interest in novel technologies and a pro-active approach to troubleshooting.
