Purpose:
To act as the quality shopfloor development engineer, ensuring a robust repeatable engineering method / process is followed and be responsible for process quality inspection checks. To develop process driven operator inspection checks that improve throughput and reduce internal quality issues.

  • Good personal and interpersonal skills, share innovation and process driven techniques with team. Ability to achieve a team vision that inspires and develops operator inspection checks. 

Technical Skills: Quality Development Engineer

  • An awareness of latest available metrology techniques that could improvequality and performance. An ability to promote innovation for all shopfloor operator inspection processes which satisfy the requirements of the product. 
  • Dimensional measurements using a wide range of metrology equipment.
  • Shopfloor CMM Programming 
  • Statistical process control (SPC) 
  • Critical dimensional measurement & reporting 
  • Cost / Time Management 
  • Team Leadership
  • Internal non-conformance management, scrap and rework reduction.
  • Analysis of data. 

Education: Quality Development Engineer

  • An engineering or manufacturing based qualification. 
  • A CMM Programming course qualification would be ideal. 
  • Able to use a wide range of metrology equipment. 

Experience: Quality Development Engineer

  • An understanding of all inspection processes including manual and automatic measurement techniques. 
  • Experience in Standard operating procedures & creation.
  • Reading & understanding technical drawings 
  • Review of NC’s and identifying root cause 

Accountabilities and Responsibilities

General:

  • Support shopfloor quality process dimensional measurements for the group. 
  • Learn and train in current manufacturing methods and processes to help gain understanding of products and help support future development. 
  • To be responsible for developing process driven operator inspection checks.
  • Work with the manufacturing team to ensure a robust repeatable and lean manufacturing methods are followed.
  • Maintain safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures.

Reporting and Control:

  • Support the manufacturing team with their recording & analysis of production data.Control of measurement equipment by following operating instructions and calibration requirements.Coordinate with management and maintain knowledge of products and their process. KPI metric reporting to control inspection bottle necks and throughput. KPI metric reporting for internal non-conformance and scrap analysis. Rework analysis and reporting. 


People and Leadership:

  • Develop and maintain positive relations and effectual communication lines with all the team, suppliers, and customers.Drive and develop a “whole team approach” which everyone is responsible for the quality of work delivered to next operation and final customer deliveries.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Responsible for challenging current working processes based on information from KPI and metrics and be able to present a case for change to management and lead the change process.Seek opportunities to update job knowledge where possible. 

Performance Indicators/Standards/Deliverables.

  • Inspect in-process production by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests, communicating required adjustments to production, and developing the method/process where necessary for production and NPI parts.Approve finished products by confirming specifications, conducting visual and measurement tests.Monitor operations of product and evaluate designs and ensure adherence to all design and manufacture principles.Look to reduce internal non conformances and their related cost impact.KPI measurement for scrap and rework, analysis and set target to reduce year on year. Production/inspection method for repeat orders. Reduce inspection requirements and measurement through robust manufacturing streamline process.Reduce inspection time through innovation and automation. Ensure work order qty complete and operation sign off is adhered to in system and reported regularly. Support non conformances detail through the system ensuring a team approach to corrective action, root cause, preventative action and following up actions.
