Are you a talented and enthusiastic Mechanical Design Engineer ready for a senior role? We’re looking for a dynamic individual to join our growing team, where you’ll provide cutting-edge solutions for a variety of manufacturing industries. We design, manufacture, and install complex automated systems using the latest robotics, servo, PLC, and vision systems.

Role Overview:

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you’ll work closely with electrical design and controls engineers to create bespoke automation machinery. Your expertise will ensure compliance with UK and international standards, producing essential technical documentation, 3D models, and 2D detail drawings. You’ll play a crucial role in driving continuous improvements within the department and company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Determine requirements from discussions and technical documentation.
  • Produce functional design specifications, system manuals, and accurate bills of materials.
  • 3D CAD Design: Create cost-effective components and assemblies using Solidworks.
  • Generate precise 2D detail and assembly drawings.
  • Select suitable components considering function, cost, and schedule.
  • Collaborate with electrical and controls engineers to meet system requirements.
  • Assist in machine commissioning for successful FAT & SAT.
  • Communicate project status for proactive planning.
  • Produce documentation complying with standards, including risk assessments and machinery manuals.
  • Create pneumatic, hydraulic, and vacuum schematics.
  • Provide occasional support for customer meetings and project scoping.
  • Perform calculations to verify suitability and performance.
  • Participate in design reviews and collaborate to enhance processes.

Key Skills:

  • Extensive experience with 3D CAD software, specifically SolidWorks.
  • Proficiency with PDM (Vault) software and SolidWorks Simulation for FEA.
  • Strong hand calculation skills for drive systems, thermal expansion, stress, etc.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Experience in bespoke machine building and design, robotics, and automation.
  • Knowledge of vision and sensing systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, and vacuum systems.
  • Broad understanding of design for manufacture, manufacturing techniques, and material selection.
  • Familiarity with UKCA/CE Technical file creation and risk assessments.
  • Ability to interact with various stakeholders including customers and suppliers.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Degree/equivalent or higher in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent (HND, HNC, BTEC)
  • 8 years or more industry experience.
