To support our progress, we are currently recruiting for a SHE Manager to come and join our group function at our Ibstock Plc

Job Purpose:

The key objective for the post-holder is to lead and manage the SHE Team in elimination of workplace accidents, environmental incidents and ill health within their respective area of control. To assist in the continued development and maintenance of the Ibstock plc SHE Management System. To promote competence training, ensuring compliance with statutory legislation, disseminating best practice and carrying out behavioral auditing and site inspections for Safety, Health, Environment and Sustainability.

The post-holder will support operational management in their respective area of the business on SHE issues, providing suitable advice, assistance and training.

Assist the Group Head of SHE in tasks and projects as directed and deputise in his absence. Responsible for providing strategic SHE support to Ibstock Group and Senior Leadership Teams that is aligned to the Group SHE strategy and action plan in place for the elimination of workplace accidents, ill health and achievement of the 5-year plan. Possesses the skills to lead and manage the SHE Advisors, Coordinators and assigned projects to deliver the requirements to implement the SHE road map.

Key Accountabilities:

• Lead and manage the SHE Advisors and Coordinators, ensuring their development, support, guidance to deliver department objectives. Maintain high performance standards, and encourage a collaborative, innovative and productive team
• Maintain SHE policies and procedures as directed by the Head of Department. Ensure legal compliance at all times.
• Provide accurate and prompt advice, support and reports on SHE and for any area of responsibility as identified by the Head of Department.
• To conduct a programme of SHE audits and send written reports and recommendations to the relevant managers in their area.
• To hold regular meetings with the operations teams as defined by the Head of Department to review progress on the sites action plan to ensure progress is in line with Ibstock plc SHE Road map.
• To ensure that all accidents, dangerous occurrences, safety observations, incidents and cases of occupational ill health, in their relevant area, are fully investigated using root cause analysis techniques (as appropriate) and advise on the necessary measures to avoid a similar occurrence.
• Where appropriate, to act as the primary point of contact for the local or national health, safety or environment regulatory and enforcement bodies.
• To liaise with Company engineers, managers and contractors regarding the SHE requirements of plant and equipment in their relevant area to ensure compliance with legal and company standard

Knowledge, Skills and Experience (Essential)

• NEBOSH Diploma
• Environment Diploma or Equivalent
• Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint software.
• Good understanding of UK H&S regulatory framework
• Management systems such as ISO14001, 9001 or 45001 and work with certification bodies
• Preparation of documents used for legal purposes such as SHE policies, guidance notes, training packages, incident investigations etc.
• Extensive experience in management role dealing with all levels of Management
• Be able to motivate and encourage others; be decisive and able to work well under pressure; resolve conflicts and good at problem solving;
• Possess excellent communication skills both verbal and written and be able to coordinate work carried out by different people and organisations;
• Innovative thinking and solutions focused
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
• Ability to present at ELT and Board Level in the absence of the Head of Department
• Process safety knowledge and the ability to apply for dangerous environments (DSEAR)
• Trained in Root Cause Analyses (RCA) techniques
• Relevant Degree (desired)
• IOSH / IEMA membership
• Certified auditor
