About this Role:

Ambitious Assistant Project Manager or Senior Site Manager required by the Dorset based office of this busy regional main contractor, to work alongside the Project Manager initially on a high profile new build sports training facility in Bournemouth, Dorset.

Reporting to and working closely with the Project Manager you will be responsible for assisting with the more technical aspects of the contract - including:

  • Client and stakeholder liaison
  • Design coordination - liaison with the consultant design team and attending Design Team Meetings
  • Sub-contractor design - dealing with specialist sub-contractor in-house designers / clash detection
  • Planning and programming of construction activities; Monitoring and reporting on progress
  • Contract administration; Change management
  • Liaison with, supporting and assisting site teams
  • Quality control; Assisting with QA procedures and ensuring works completed to specification
  • Health & safety; Ensuring high standards of safe working practices are planned and adhered to at all times

The role will involve regular client and stakeholder liaison, input to construction methodology, input to sequencing and programming of works, raising TQs and RFIs to help manage the flow of information, health and safety, quality control, input to procurement, identifying and mitigating potential risks, issue resolution, and helping to ensure the delivery of the scheme on specification, programme and budget.

This is effectively a route into the full Project Manager role, learning the company processes and procedures, demonstrating the capability and aptitude to deal with the challenges and situations that occur throughout the construction process, and the ability to effectively manage and lead a team.

On successful completion of this initial scheme next year, the anticipation will be that the successful candidate will move up to Project Manager and run the next project as the lead.

About the Company/Client/Project:

This role is with the busy regional office of a South Coast based main contractor group, with a turnover in excess of £50m, and secured workload in the healthcare, education, retirement, commercial, industrial, and retail sectors mainly in the Hampshire and Dorset areas (occasionally up to Wiltshire).

Projects range in size from the smaller £2m up to £15m in value. Schemes vary in complexity from industrial new build projects on green field sites to tricky healthcare new builds and refurbishment projects within live operational environments and extensive stakeholder engagement, challenging MEP installations, etc.

Requirements including certificates and qualifications:

You will be degree qualified in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, or time-served trades background with circa 6-10 years of experience to date in a Site to Senior Site Manager role with a main contractor.

Key attributes will include clear communication skills, excellent organisation, good developing technical and contractual knowledge, plus a keen understanding of construction methodology and sequencing / planning of works.
