Job Description

The main responsibility is to support the Project Engineering Team in delivering the execution design via managing multiple data streams within a controlled system of delivery to ensure quality and integrity of design is not compromised.  This will occur within a dynamic working environment. The Engineering Design Delivery Engineer will be responsible for:

Operating Environment

  • The role involves operating within a highly regulated industry. All aspects of our work are governed by processes, procedures and policies.
  • This role requires an appreciation of working within the construction industry , which will be focussed on the electrical installation but also taking account of mechanical and HVAC systems, construction, constructability, awareness of the importance of regulations, UK Health and Safety legislation and environmental legislation;
  • The main internal policies relevant to this role cover management of important design data and change configuration for high priority design delivery across execution design, supply chain interface packaged for final installation.   
  • The key relationships for this role are set across the design teams, the supply chain and internal project stakeholders within the Mechanical, Electrical and HVAC (MEH) programme multi-disciplinary team (MDT).  Good relationships with other delivery partners and MDTs are also a key success factor for this role.
  • The breadth of responsibility covers the correlating of various inter-related design / installation data towards the delivery of compliant design packages to the site team for installation. In addition, the role requires close attention to changes in design configuration.

 

Frameworks and Duties

The main challenges associated with this role are:

  • Ensuring that detailed recording of various topics are maintained to track resolution of open points.
  • Interface between each stakeholder with regular workshops to agree resolution in a timely manner across various scopes and/or area basis which integrate;
  • Create project documentation in line with current templates to maintain control of design status
  • Update regularly the overarching tracking database system to provide status updates for previous, ongoing, and forecasted deliverables
  • Technical resolution status overview awareness for implementation within a compliant delivery of execution design
  • Progress reporting to the Engineering Manager
  • Approved Execution Design deliverables at HO2 status to enable progress into manufacture and site installation teams
Qualifications
  • Minimum HNC in an engineering discipline. 
  • An understanding of engineering design delivery, understanding of cross-discipline relationships, interfaces and coordination between different teams. 
  • Experience / understanding of engineering design delivery, requirements, standards, handover and quality needs, including use of 3D modelling environment. 
  • Nuclear sector experience, ideally in new build environment. 
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel & data management. 
  • A positive ‘can do’ mentality, self-motivated, setting the right behaviours. 
  • An ability to think laterally and flexibly to deliver solutions, and a ‘process driven’ focus to delivery. 
  • Strong communication skills with their team and external stakeholders. 
  • Has worked at a level, providing accountability for their actions. 
  • An ability to reach sensible compromise positions. 
  • Can demonstrate previous record of success in their discipline, evidenced by examples. 
  • Understanding the needs of nuclear quality and how nuclear quality is assured and controlled.

Understand how to apply a graded approach to quality

Additional Qualification:

  • Degree in engineering (desirable) 
  • Charted /Incorporated with relevant engineering institute or working towards Charted / Incorporated status 
  • Detailed understanding of PWR design and experience in PWR operations advantageous but not essential.
  • Working knowledge of French language an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of CDM Regulations.
  • Experience of construction of large multi-discipline projects is helpful

Additional Information

The post holder will be based at Hinkley Point C and may be required to travel to other company locations in the UK and possibly Europe as required.

The work can be completed from any HPC office location (Bristol, Gloucester, Bridgewater) however there is an expectation that delivery will require weekly visits to the Bristol office (Aztec West) to interface directly with the Equipment Delivery team. Security clearance and completion of the NNB induction site access and IT) will also be required.
