Job Purpose:

By working in partnership with the Engineering, Commercial, Quality, and Production departments, the Procurement Lead will be responsible for ensuring that the right materials are procured at the best prices, ensuring timely delivery, and maintaining strong supplier relationships to leverage the best commercial impact.

Summary of the Role:

The Procurement Lead will play a crucial role in ensuring the seamless operation of our production processes by procuring the right materials. The ideal candidate will have a robust understanding of engineering materials, grades, and tolerances, and demonstrate commercial acumen. Members of the Procurement Team are expected to always take a consultative and constructive approach to their interaction with stakeholders and other team members to maintain elevated levels of professional integrity and to be a positive role model to other employees by conducting themselves in a manner consistent with the Company’s Values and SST Behaviours.

Duties, including but not limited to:

  • Sourcing and procuring materials, components, and services to meet production requirements.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key suppliers to ensure reliable supply chains.
  • Negotiating prices and terms with suppliers to achieve the best value without compromising quality.
  • Monitoring and managing inventory levels to ensure material availability while minimizing excess stock.
  • Ensuring that all materials and components meet the required specifications and standards.
  • Utilizing Epicor ERP system to manage purchase orders, track deliveries, and maintain accurate records.
  • Staying informed about market trends, material availability, and pricing fluctuations.
  • Gathering and presenting data to support Vendor Appraisal and Vendor Rating.
  • Working closely with the engineering, production, and finance teams to align procurement activities with company goals.
  • Contributing to developing a sustainable, ethical, ESG supply chain.

Skills & Experience:

Core Competencies:

  • Effective communicator both written and oral.
  • Able to read, review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications.
  • Able to build effective relationships with customers, internal stakeholders, and other invested parties.
  • Able to respectfully challenge and influence others, including stakeholders, to ensure that the right outcomes are achieved.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workflow.
  • Numerically literate.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office tools and relevant IT/ERP (Epicor) packages.
  • Able to work independently, within a team, and cross functionally.

Travel Expectations:

  • Able to travel independently between sites.
  • Able to travel to suppliers, including overnight stay where appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Degree calibre candidate, with Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS) qualifications or equivalent qualifications.

Experience:

  • A proven track record working in a Procurement Department, minimum 5 years, within a fabrication and/or machining environment.
  • Familiar with all aspects of Vendor Rating and Vendor Development.
  • Fully conversant with MRP Planning and BOM control.
  • Engineering / Steel Industry experience.
  • Latest Digitalization & AI knowledge.
