Job Title: Technical Sales Engineer

Location: Birmingham, UK (with travel to customer sites as needed)

Company Overview: We are a specialist sub-contract manufacturer of high-volume, precision turned parts, with our headquarters located in central Birmingham and other business in the West Midlands. As a Business to Business (B2B) supplier, we manufacture components to specific customer drawings for a diverse range of sectors including Gas, Electrical, Pneumatic, and HVAC. Our current customer base is split 35% export and 65% domestic.

The ideal candidate will be a proactive individual with a strong focus on business development. Commercial awareness and the ability to work swiftly and accurately in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment are essential. Preferably, candidates will have a successful track record within a sub-contract engineering company.

Job Description: The Technical Sales Engineer will be primarily office-based at our Birmingham facility, with occasional travel to visit and develop business with both existing and potential customers. This role is pivotal in managing customer accounts through direct interaction, collaborating with the production team to meet delivery schedules, addressing quality issues, and quoting new business. The ultimate goal is to ensure our customers receive high-quality products on time and in full.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage customer accounts and maintain direct contact to ensure satisfaction and foster strong relationships.
  • Complete monthly reporting activities and prepare various documents related to company promotion.
  • Conduct negotiations and presentations professionally, determining price strategies tailored to each customer.
  • Assess customer enquiries and prepare accurate quotations, letters, and other related documents.
  • Achieve sales revenue targets and maximize revenue opportunities.
  • Prospect and develop new business to drive growth.
  • Protect and expand existing accounts through a consultative approach, enhancing customer relationships.
  • Negotiate long-term price agreements and contract terms to balance customer and company needs.
  • Collaborate with other departments to meet delivery performance and quality KPIs.
  • Support other sales team members with expediting, documentation, and order processing tasks.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to plan ahead and align actions with the company’s objectives.
  • Commercially aware with a strategic mindset.
  • Proven success in business development and account management.
  • Experience in the sub-contract manufacturing industry is preferred.

Training: Training will be provided where necessary to ensure the successful candidate is fully equipped to excel in this role.
