Technical Support Coordinator (Marine Pollution)

Job Salary: up to £40,000 plus extensive package

Job Key Skills/Experience: A degree in a scientific or engineering related discipline, coupled with strong IT and presentation skills, excellent interpersonal skills and fluency in English. Relevant practical experience of claims, modelling and fluency in further languages are desirable. As to is relevant practical experience of pollution control, and/or the effects of pollution on marine resources.

Our client is an international, not-for-profit organisation providing the maritime industry with objective technical advice and information on the most appropriate methods for responding to oil and chemical spills in the marine environment, to enable their impact on the environment and economic resources to be minimised. This objective advice is provided both offsite and onsite in relation to accidental spills of oil and chemicals worldwide and to provide technical knowledge to damage assessment, claims analysis, contingency planning and the provision of training.

Job Summary: To enable delivery of key technical services, primarily through provision of technical support within the Technical Team, including claims work and modelling. The successful candidate will assist with the monitoring and collection of data for claims handling. Liaising with surveyors, correspondents, claimants etc. Thy will also have responsibility for evaluating and and assessing claims arising from incidents working with the Senior Technical Support Coordinator as required.

The successful candidate will also provide support to the Technical Team on a variety of IT based systems for the modelling and monitoring functions, both during pollution incidents and for wider project work. Liaising regularly with the wider Technical Team to ensure colleagues are fully aware of, and have access to, the optimum solutions for modelling and monitoring.

Job Requirements

  • A higher degree in a relevant scientific, engineering or related discipline.
  • Relevant practical experience of claims, and modelling
  • Relevant practical experience of pollution control and/or the effects of pollution on marine resources.
  • Full UK/European driving licence.
  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver complex technical messages in a concise and clear manner.
  • Good written and oral presentation skills in the English language.

Fluency in a language other than English, particularly Mandarin, or Malay, Bahasa Indonesia, Japanese or Korean would be a distinct advantage.
