We are currently recruiting an experienced Early Years Practitioner to work within a nursery in Dudley supporting children aged between 2-5 years old. You must have a relevant qualification and an in date Enhanced Child DBS. You must have experience of working with children with severe and complex additional needs.

Purpose of the Job:

  • The requirement is a relevant Level 2 qualification.
  • To support the education and care of all children within the Nursery School - working across Oak and Acorn as needed to meet the needs of the school.
  • To provide more specific support and work under the supervision and guidance of the Deputy Headteacher/Early Years Lead Educator/Senior Early Years Practitioner.

Main Activities

Support for Pupils:

  • Assist pupils, with personal hygiene routines including toilet training, changing of incontinent/sick children, dressing and undressing.
  • Supervise the activities of individuals or groups of children within the indoor and outdoor learning environment.
  • Under the instruction/guidance of the Deputy Headteacher/Early Years Lead Educator, support pupils with sensory and/or physical impairment.
  • Under the instruction/guidance of the Deputy Headteacher/Early Years Lead Educator, support pupils with non-specific learning difficulties.
  • Under the instruction/guidance of the Deputy Headteacher/Early Years Lead Educator, support pupils with behavioural, emotional and social development needs e.g. implementation of behaviour management policies/promotion of Nursery School policies relating to pupil behaviour.
  • Under the instruction/guidance of the Deputy Headteacher/Early Years Lead Educator support pupils with communication and interactions difficulties.
  • Supervise and provide particular support for pupils, including those with special needs ensuring their safety and access to learning activities.
  • Interact with pupils in sensitive way to support, enable and enhance their learning, based on their wants, needs and interests.
  • Support with the delivery and implementation of pupils individual education plans, including adding relevant observation notes.
  • Provide feedback to parents in relation to progress and achievement under the guidance of the Deputy Headteacher/Early Years Lead Educator/Senior Early Years Practitioner.

Support for the Deputy Headteacher/Early Years Lead Educator/Nursery School:

  • Provide support for learning activities by making a contribution to supporting the Deputy Headteacher/Early Years Lead Educator in the planning and evaluation of learning activities and supporting the delivery of learning activities.
  • Making an active contribution to organising high quality indoor and outdoor learning environments and maintaining appropriate records.
  • Make active contributions to team meetings to identify pupil progress, attainment, achievement and identify next steps needed.
  • Design and produce displays with minimal supervision. ▪ Contribute information to pupil records (e.g. assessment information).
  • Observe pupils responses to learning activities and record achievement/progress as directed.
  • Provide regular feedback to the Deputy Headteacher/Early Years Lead Educator/Senior Early Years practitioner on pupil achievement, progress and problems.
  • Promote good pupil behaviour, dealing promptly with conflict and incidents and reporting in line with Nursery School Policy.
  • Establish constructive relationships with parents/carers. Work with parents to enhance pupils learning.
  • Participate actively in training and other learning activities and performance development, including Performance Management.
  • Ensure that school Child Protection Policy and procedures are adhered to at all times. Where appropriate use CPOMS to record incidents in line with agreed school procedures. To ensure up to date Safeguarding training is implemented in practice.
  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, equal opportunities, health and safety, security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to the appropriate person.
  • To participate fully in individual Supervision sessions to support personal wellbeing and positive mental health.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the Nursery School.
  • Attend and participate actively in relevant meetings as required.
  • To undertake Paediatric First Aid training and act as a qualified First Aider.
  • To undertake any other responsibilities as may be deemed necessary at the discretion of the Headteacher, commensurate with the salary and grade of the post.

Experience:

  • Demonstrable experience of working with or caring with children aged 2-5 years old.
  • General understanding of Nursery School policies and procedures relating to health and safety, behaviour, attendance, equal opportunities and child protection.
  • General understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.
  • Basic understanding of child development and learning.

Qualifications/Training:

  • Relevant Level 2 qualification or equivalent.
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills.

Practical Skills:

  • A basic knowledge of first aid.
  • Ability to use relevant technology e.g. computer/ keyboard/photocopier/video.
  • Demonstrate good numerical and verbal reasoning skills and literacy skills e.g. by qualification or testing with the ability to produce documentation to a good standard.
  • Ability to use relevant technology and able to demonstrate knowledge and use a wide range of ICT systems and solutions.
