We are working with a family-owned business with over 100 years of experience in supplying high-quality meat to the UK retail sector, foodservice, and export markets. The company is now managed by the 4th generation of the family, dedicated to delivering exceptional products and services to its customers.

Role Description: As a Technical Manager, you will provide Food Technology expertise to the site senior management team. Your role will involve developing an effective Food Safety Plan and Quality Management Systems, ensuring the production of safe, legal, and authentic products that meet our standards and our customers' standards. You will also drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce non-conformance and complaints while supporting cost reduction efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the site's Technical, Quality Assurance, and Hygiene teams, ensuring they have the necessary skills, resources, and capabilities.
  • Monitor and report on the site's Technical and Quality KPIs, driving continuous improvement.
  • Lead Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) & Threat Assessment Critical Control Points (TACCP) programmes.
  • Develop and maintain an effective Food Safety Plan and Quality Management System, ensuring compliance with legal, accreditation, and customer requirements.
  • Support the operational team in consistently meeting the standards and objectives of the Food Safety Plan and QMS.
  • Provide food technology training as required.
  • Manage engagement with customers' technical teams and regulatory contacts.
  • Oversee third-party accreditation requirements.
  • Collaborate with the innovation, operations, and planning teams to deliver successful product development and introduce new equipment, raw materials, and packaging.
  • Support the HR team in meeting the requirements of the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) base code.

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Degree in Food Science or equivalent.
  • Level 4 HACCP and Food Safety certifications.
  • Lead Auditor qualification.
  • TACCP/VACCP training.
  • Train the Trainer certification.
  • Experience in Thermal Processing and Sensory Assessment.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a food safety management role.
  • Experience in High Care/Chilled/Frozen Food environments.
  • Familiarity with high-profile customer standards.
  • Experience with technologists, auditors, and risk assessments.
  • Incident Management experience.
  • Knowledge of allergen management and vulnerability/integrity issues.
  • Experience with BRC standards.
  • Experience in engineering systems/commissioning.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong numeracy skills.
