Engineering Director- up to £120,000 per annum + Bonus + Benefits
Tay Recruitment are recruiting for an Engineering Director to join our clients Senior Management team based in Acocks Green South Birmingham.
Due to growth and new markets the organisation operates at the forefront in the Low Carbon/Zero Emissions vehicle sector. The organisation employs close to three hundred people within their Head Office and have multiple sites across the globe. The primary market for their product is Middle East & USA, however they do also supply into the UK and Europe markets.
To aid with the expansion plans of they are developing an exciting new range of products they now have the need to appoint an Engineering Director into a newly created role on a permanent basis with an offer of sitting on the board of Directors.
In this role as an Engineering Director, you will be responsible for managing the R&D team based in the UK, whilst liaising with and managing my clients contract manufacturing organisations that they have partnered with who are situated in Europe and the middle east.
Initially you will oversee, all aspects of the engineer departments and the research and development teams.
Key areas of responsibility
Product / Customer Engineering, offering standard product range with pre-agreed acceptable design changes.
Product Design Standards, updating with lessons learned and best practice design.
Test & Development Department, ensuring all products are fully validated publishing capability and key installation requirements.
Installation Approval process in parallel with Test & Development
Supporting Prototype Build and End of Line Test & Approval
FAI approval process & documentation
Engineering standards & Processes
Project review process to include technical requirements, On Time Delivery and Budget adherence.
Management of Waste Identification Process with focus on Preventive measures
Technical
R&D Product Engineering, developing the thermal management products and systems of the future.
Development of product weight, performance, and overall efficiency
Electrical / Electronic understanding and platform development of class leading controls and field reporting.
Manufacturing Engineering taking a product from concept and CAD models to Production released products, allowing build and construction in the most efficient manner.
FEA analysis of structures and complete systems
CFD department capability for analysing flow, performance, and system integration.
Build system protection, Mechanical and Electrical into all innovative designs undertaken.
Strategy
Creation of technology road map for long term future development
Training & Personal development of Engineering team
Operating platform for efficiently managing Engineering process.
Product development should reflect both Total Cost of Ownership and Life Cycle costs and recyclability.
Develop 3 year rolling Engineering Departmental budget Product reliability which meets customer expectation.
Health & Safety
Ensure the Department works in a manner conducive to safety and with minimised risk to yourself and others.
Always create a culture of safe working.
Ensure product design incorporates required safety vehicles for operators and technicians.
Quality
Ensure quality is built into our product and process from the start of design through to production release.
Support all product reliability and process reliability issues.
Key Skills
Full understanding of vehicle design, and sub system integration
Wide technical understanding of Engineering principles relevant to our current and future product development program
Open minded and prepared to push the boundaries to new levels, taking on board market requirements, fiscal challenges and the necessity for class leading products.
Electrical / Electronic background, or minimum capability to manage the electronics team across Hardware, Software and General system controls.
Understanding of thermal management, and multiple system integration.
FEA analysis
Able to work in a fast-paced environment, in multiple disciplines showing leadership and direction.
Experience/Knowledge
Demonstrate experience running an Engineering department with a wide range of activity, including Mechanical, Electrical and Design activity.
Degree to minimum 2:1 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
Minimum ILM Level 5 or equivalent
IOSH or NEBOSH qualified (Desired, training courses available)
CAN J1939 knowledge and understanding.
