  • Conduct toolbox talks with temporary works designers on safety and design procedure compliance issues as needed.

  • Conduct site-based toolbox talks with site staff (Site Managers/TWS and erectors) to ensure thorough understanding of critical timings, hold points, and inspection requirements for complex areas of temporary works design.

  • Manage a team of temporary works designers with varying levels of expertise, fostering collaborative efforts on large projects or independent work on less complex assignments.

Requirements:

  • Qualified to HNC/HND/degree level or equivalent, with extensive knowledge of the Steel Industry.

  • Broad experience across the construction industry to effectively manage potential design interfaces with temporary and permanent works responsibilities of other companies.

  • Profound understanding of steelwork erection requirements and current industry practices.

  • Ability to collaborate closely with site-based personnel to understand limitations when aligning proposed design solutions with design briefs.

  • Solid grasp of design codes, particularly steel and temporary works codes, to fulfill responsibilities adequately.

  • Ability to discuss and advise on a wide range of technical issues to deliver design solutions compliant with design brief expectations and code requirements.

  • Understanding of stability principles in partially erected steel structures and fabrication limitations in steelwork design preparation.

  • Proficiency in planning and coordinating design work, identifying resource needs, and effectively delegating and supervising tasks.

  • Knowledgeable about current legislation, hazards, safe systems of work, and principles of risk management within construction and steel fabrication environments, applying these principles to designs.

  • Clear communication skills to convey complex temporary works design requirements, applications, and limitations effectively through written, graphical, verbal, or drawing methods to design teams, site teams, and the TWC.

  • Ability to accurately communicate key information in temporary works design outputs (drawings, calculations, sequencing information) to specialist personnel responsible for on-site steelwork erection, and conduct necessary toolbox talks and briefings to site staff.
