Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Sociology Teacher to join our dynamic Humanities Department for a temporary maternity cover from September 2024 to January 2025. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality Sociology education to Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 students, inspiring them to engage critically with the subject matter and excel in their studies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging Sociology lessons in accordance with the national curriculum and examination board requirements.
  • Create a stimulating learning environment that encourages student participation and fosters a passion for Sociology.
  • Assess, record, and report on the development, progress, and attainment of students, providing regular feedback to students and parents.
  • Develop and implement effective teaching strategies that cater to the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, parent consultations, and professional development activities.
  • Maintain high standards of classroom management and discipline in accordance with school policies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and share best practices and resources.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • A degree in Sociology or a related field.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Proven experience teaching Sociology at Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 levels.
  • Strong subject knowledge and a passion for Sociology.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students to achieve their best.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable:

  • Experience in using innovative teaching methods and integrating technology into the classroom.
  • Previous experience in a similar role, preferably within a secondary school setting.
  • Familiarity with the current curriculum and examination specifications for Sociology.
