Russell Taylor Group have a fantastic opportunity for Senior Analyst/Chemist looking to take that next step up into a supervisor position within the quality department. Ideally our client is looking for someone with ICP experience and may have previously worked within metals testing. However, this is not essential, they will also consider people from similar manufacturing and or heavy industrial.
Please note, even though this is a supervisor role, this role does not involve supervising anyone directly day to day.

Responsibilities
• Maintain and improve chemical analysis, mechanical testing and metallurgical testing capability, you will do this through detailed understanding of techniques, experiences and customer procedures.
• Act as a technical lead for analytical techniques including ICP-OES, XRF, AA & combustion and process testing.
• Support weekly testing plans based on the needs of the Customer and taking into consideration testing requirements and available resources.
• Support the enhanced efficiencies of the laboratory through improvement of working practices and continuous improvement activities.
• Ensure that the quality systems are maintained and suggest improvements.
• Review the HSE within the laboratory including risk assessment, COSHH regulations and manual handling.
• Represent the company at committee and approval bodies meetings.
• Organise and coordinate UKAS, NADCAP and customer audits of the laboratories.
• Conduct quality audits.
• Review testing and calibration status and be able to suggest improvements.
• Review customer specifications.
• Organise the installation and verification of new equipment.
• Help with staff training and approve laboratory staff overtime and holidays.
• Deputise for Laboratory Manager when required.


The Person
• Previous experience working within a laboratory, conducting chemical analysis techniques.
• Educated to degree level in Chemistry or similar subjects such as Forensics, Material Science or Environmental Science.
• Experience of analytical techniques (ICP ideally)
• Previous experience of working with quality systems in a manufacturing environment.
• Previous experience of working to testing standards.
• Experience managing a small group of staff (preferable).
• Experience of Method development (preferable).
• Excellent organisational skills and confident decision-making ability.
• Previous experience of working to budgets and deadlines.
• Critical thinking/reasoning & problem-solving skills.
