Senior Practice Accountant

Location: Our office is based in Islington, North London, (N5).
Starting Salary:  Up to £45k depending on experience
Contract: Full-time or Part-time, permanent. We can accommodate a flexible working pattern for the ideal candidate.

We are looking for an experienced senior accountant to join our accountancy practice in Islington.

Our accountancy practice delivers a friendly and proactive year-round service to small businesses and personal taxpayers.

The successful candidate will report to the Practice Owner and be involved with all aspects of accountancy, taxation and managing client relationships.

The role provides the opportunity to work with the Practice Owner to:

•  develop service offerings and grow the business.
•  optimise the latest practice software to enhance processes and systems.
•  support other team members and develop skill sets.
•  build lasting client relationships in the local community.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Role:

Working at a senior level, providing complete accounting and business support to clients, including interim and annual accounts preparation, VAT returns and corporate and personal tax returns.

You will be required to review the work of other semi-senior accountants e.g.: review first draft tax returns/accounts before sending onto clients.

You will support the management and administration of the technical side of the Practice by implementing policy improvements, training staff, and keeping review files. You will establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, Directors, and clients. You will assist in monitoring and meeting client deadlines.

Candidate Profile:

Suitable candidates must have:

•  ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent qualifications
•  Or qualified by experience (minimum 5 years’ experience required)
•  Up to date UK tax knowledge
•  Relevant and recent small accountancy practice experience
•  Good written and spoken English, to explain complex accounting matters clearly to clients.
•  Customer-focused approach to work and commercial awareness
•  A proactive, positive, and self-motivated attitude with a problem-solving mindset
•  Strong IT skills, with experience in practice software, including QuickBooks, Xero and Dext. We use TaxCalc accounting/tax software – so experience in this software would be ideal but training will be provided.
•  The ability to adapt to new software, systems, and regulatory changes.
•  Ability to take responsibility for all aspects of technical work.
