Job Title: Fair Trading Officer

Location: South London

Contract Details: Temporary, 3+ months with a potential to extend

Salary: £20.92 - £27.14 per hour

Responsibilities:

  • Provide a compliance and enforcement service, ensuring adherence to street trading legislation
  • Process street trading designation and licence applications within statutory timescales
  • Manage and allocate work to the Markets & Street Trading Licensing Officer
  • Assist individuals and companies in understanding and complying with licensing legislation
  • Support the Neighbourhood Safety Officer Teams in managing and enforcing street trading legislation
  • Conduct inspections of licensed animal welfare premises and respond to related complaints
  • Co-ordinate and conduct covert surveillance and targeted operations as directed
  • Provide advice and assistance to licence holders, prospective applicants, and relevant stakeholders
  • Take an active role in maintaining attractive and inviting trading spaces
  • Develop operational links and partnerships with stakeholders to provide enforcement expertise

Essential (Knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience):

  • Strong knowledge of street trading legislation
  • Familiarity with the London Local Authorities Acts and relevant licensing legislation
  • Experience in enforcement and preparation of reports and prosecution case papers
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to handle confrontational situations
  • Effective staff management skills for direct line management responsibilities
  • Experience in the street trading licence process and compliance

Desirable (Knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience):

  • Business development awareness and knowledge of the local area
  • Experience in successfully planning and operating Markets
  • Familiarity with other relevant licensing legislation

Technologies:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft computer applications
  • Will learn local system and processes
