I have an exciting opportunity working for a well-known travel company in Liverpool, who are looking for an Environment and Energy Manager. The ideal candidate will provide technical advice on environment and energy management within the company, build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, manage issue resolution, maintain and further develop systems to track consumption, identify areas for improvement, and work with front-line managers to influence cultural change for the environment.

Job Accountability:

  • Advise and promote energy conservation and consumption minimisation among employees.
  • Support new schemes and projects to ensure alignment with environmental and energy goals.
  • Develop and maintain environmental management systems reflecting current industry practices and legislation.
  • Enhance cultural understanding and perception of environment and energy across the business.
  • Oversee daily environment and energy management.

Decision Making Authority:

  • Define and implement energy conservation measures.
  • Assess relevance of current and future environmental and energy legislation to the company.

Challenges:

  • Engage and influence front-line employees and managers on energy conservation.
  • Build relationships with managers to embed energy conservation in daily practices.

Principle Accountability:

  • Promote awareness of energy and utility conservation among employees.

Management Job Duties:

  • Maintain Environment and Energy Management Systems (EEMs) compliant with ISO:14001/50001 and integrate them into business processes.
  • Review industry best practices for energy conservation and reduced consumption for both train and property supplies.
  • Educate and influence management on new energy concepts and processes.
  • Collaborate with Asset Management, Engineering, and Operations departments to implement energy conservation schemes.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including utility suppliers and industry groups.
  • Develop communication campaigns to enhance sustainability awareness.
  • Handle purchase orders and validate energy and water invoices.
  • Maintain a meter asset register and manage meter installations.
  • Support the Head of Safety in developing and implementing annual improvement plans.
  • Manage the non-traction energy and water budget, including representing the company at the Serco Energy Risk Governance Board.
  • Advise on sustainability training and competency requirements for employees.
  • Review and improve data collation methods and accuracy, track consumption, and provide periodic reports and analysis.
  • Conduct environment and energy audits to ensure compliance and identify improvements.

Experience, Knowledge, Qualifications & Training:

  • Essential: Hold Practitioner membership to IEMA or similar professional body.
  • Essential: Experience in an energy advisor / management role.
  • Essential: Experience maintaining ISO 14001 and 50001 Standards.
  • Desirable: EMS Internal auditor to ISO14001 and 50001.
  • Essential: Knowledge of government strategy with regards to climate change and energy and its impact.
  • Essential: Good communication, presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent Excel skills and other analytical software with a good approach and attention to detail.
  • Desirable: Railway experience, including traction energy.
