Process Design Engineer


To manage and deliver engineering capital projects, from the conceptual design through the commissioning and start-up phases, safely on time and within budget.

Responsible for supporting small, medium, and large-scale engineering projects in a safe and timely manner, ensuring that all work carried out meets the requirements of the business and complies with relevant legislation in force at the time.


To deliver commissioning plans agreed with the Engineering Project Director on time and on budget. To deliver plant improvements agreed with manufacturing and the site management team achieving agreed improvement targets.


To be the site coordinator for continuous improvement activities, working closely with Operations, Engineering and Maintenance teams to deliver safe and cost-effective improvements to enhance manufacturing capacity and improve plant reliability and performance. Developing business cases for business improvements to present to senior management for appraisal.


Project Engineering and Management

· Promote site safety at all times and lead by example.

· Identify improvements and opportunities on site and basic business case for review.

· Deputise for the Engineering Project Director where required.

· Implement the company Project Management Methodology for the assigned capital projects.

· Prepare project documentation including scope statements, cost and time estimates, project execution plans and any other documentation within the Company project management standard work process.

· Work with EUK engineers, provide support and involve them in the project when required.

· Reduce aspects of risk associated with the project scopes from initial studies and assessment tools PHA, LOPA etc

· Participate in PHA (Process Hazard Analysis) studies as required

· Implement defined project scopes for Capital Expenditure (CAPEX)

· Produce data sheets and documentation for the projects, develop and maintain health and safety files to comply with CDM

· Provide internal progress/status reports; including financial tracking of projects, progress against milestones to ensure on time and on budget completion

· Liaise with site construction supervisors and support project construction work on site.

· Handover completed projects to internal customer (manufacturing/operations), including commissioning documentation (SOPs, POIs, POMs etc.), training etc

· Manage commissioning phases of projects ensuring that they are completed on time and within budget

· Produce, track project snagging lists to completion and provision of report.

· For major and minor projects and for improvement, provide technical support to plant and operations as requested

· Keep up to date with all new standards, continue and maintain professional development training (CPD).

· Provide liaison for setting of technical standards within Esseco UK Ltd and Esseco Group where applicable.

· Promote site safety at all times and lead by example.

· Perform internal safety and quality audits of the site.

· Be an active member of the on-site Emergency Response Management function.

Continuous improvement

· Supporting manufacturing and maintenance teams (particularly plant "champions") and the site management team, lead the identification and prioritisation of plant improvements.

· Coordinate continuous improvement activities of relevant teams around site.

· Coordinate and support root cause investigation activities using the EUK standard methodology. Support closeout of actions to prevent recurrence.

· Implement and commission then handover agreed continuous improvement projects to agreed timescales and budgets using the EUK project management methodology.

Engineering:

· Understands and applies project management best practices

· Liaise with the Engineering Disciplines ensuring their timely involvement

· Evaluates the project workload and supports the Engineering manager and the Project Manager in assigning the engineering resources

· Reviews the engineering deliverables for quality and consistency

· Ensures project documentation is thorough and properly organized

· Understands the basics of chemical process engineering and interacts with the Process Engineers in every stage of the projects

· Can read and mark-up P&IDs and PFDs

· Understands and is able to apply mass, energy and momentum balances to engineering problems on site

· Has a general understanding of process equipment for chemical manufacturing sites such as reactors, pumps, storage tanks, fans, scrubbers, solid handling equipment

· Has a practical knowledge of modern DCS systems and their component, I/O panels, FAT and SAT

· Has a practical knowledge of Process Safety Management elements (PSM) such as: MOC, Root Cause Investigations, PHA, Mechanical Integrity

ESSENTIAL DESIRABLE HOW MEASURED · Degree or equivalent in chemical engineering with a minimum of 5 years job related experience in a chemical manufacturing environment.
