We are working with a Bodmin based Family run business who designs and manufactures specialist products supplying to several industry sectors including SATCOM & Spaceflight, Telecommunications 5G & 6G, Aerospace & Defence. As a market-leader in their field, they are committed to providing high-quality, high-performance precision products worldwide.

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join the team of this thriving business. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will be required to manage and deliver projects for customers in adherence to company health and safety standards.

This is a day shift position working 36 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working with the RF team to ensure compatibility with microwave design intent.
  • To generate mechanical designs to meet the market or specific customer’s requirements, typically in relation to Environmental considerations, typically including exposure to, moisture, vacuum, temperature etc, Vibration, shock, and physical parameters such as size and mass, Heat transfer and temperature considerations. Design for Manufacture and Assembly, Design for cost and timeliness.
  • Project management of often complex projects.
  • Perform the modelling and analyses using our FEA packages to verify that fitness for purpose of our designs.
  • Working with our purchasing team and suppliers to identify appropriate materials and components.
  • Approval of engineering drawings.
  • Investigating, developing, recommending, and implementing new engineering concepts and methods.
  • Participate in Design Reviews. Promote and ensure compliance with our NPI (new product introduction) processes.
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with managers and supervisors to implement the Company’s policies and business objectives.
  • Make a positive contribution to maintaining a workplace that is healthy, safe, neat, and tidy.
  • Exercise a duty of care to themselves and the team in respect of Health, Safety, and wellbeing.
  • Carry out any other duties reasonable within capability as the Company requires.
  • Training, mentoring, and developing others.

Essential Experience / Qualifications and Attributes Required:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar Engineering discipline.
  • Recent, proven experience working as a Mechanical Design Engineer coupled with good computer literacy, familiarity, particularly Microsoft Office products and, 3D Autodesk / AutoCAD or similar 3D design packages.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to use initiative, be proactive and work efficiently as part of a team.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Flexible, courteous, friendly and positive approach coupled with discretion, confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
