Salary: Grade 7 c.£47k to £54.5K (pay review pending for 24/25, generous benefits, including defined benefit Strathclyde pension fund and 33 days annual leave in addition to 13 public holidays)

The Finance team is a crucial component of such success and provides an essential backbone for smooth operations and strategic decision making, with responsibility for £175M of income and expenditure annually.

The role

Glasgow Caledonian University are on the search for an Associate Finance Business Partner to join their Finance Business Partner Team.

In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in providing critical management information, including forecasting, budgeting, and activity-based costing to support the Finance Business Partners and strategic decision making across the University.

Your primary responsibilities will include supporting the preparation and planning of the annual budget in collaboration with various Schools and Support areas, contributing to detailed forecasting and variance reporting, and enhancing financial management information for executive stakeholders.

You will also play a key role in developing improved research reporting and enhancing the existing activity based costing analysis and reporting as a key metric for strategic decisions. In collaboration with the Finance Business Partner team, you will help communicate detailed departmental financial analyses across the university, promoting this data as a cornerstone for strategic decision-making.

The person

The ideal candidate will be newly or recently qualified with a CCAB-recognized accountancy qualification. Part qualified or unqualified candidates must demonstrate equivalent relevant experience and competence.

Proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, and large data set manipulation, is essential. Candidates must have strong analytical skills to understand the diverse issues impacting the university's financial and non-financial performance.

The ability to plan and prioritize workload in alignment with annual planning and reporting requirements is crucial, as is a proactive approach to service development and process improvement.

We are looking for someone who can manage complex situations calmly and professionally, with excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively convey complex information and negotiate with colleagues at all levels.

The successful candidate will also demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships, exercise initiative, and show a high degree of responsibility.
