The Burford Recruitment Company are thrilled to be working with our clients who are seeking an ambitious and passionate Private Estate Gardener. This role offers a unique opportunity for a passionate self-starter to maintain and enhance the beauty of their stunning country estate.

Having undergone a fairly extensive renovation and landscaping project around the home, the family are looking for a part-time gardener to maintain the formal gardens and assist as required with other areas of the estate which include a greenhouse, Japanese garden, and meadow. You will work closely with the Estate Manager as well as the Principals to bring innovative ideas to the gardens. You will be someone who truly loves gardening and is excited to create beautiful outdoor spaces.

Responsibilities:

  • Regular maintenance of beds, plants and formal gardens to ensure they are well-manicured and healthy.
  • Select appropriate plants, flowers, and trees for seasonal planting and ensure proper care and maintenance throughout the year.
  • Efficiently managing irrigation systems.
  • Use eco-friendly methods to manage pests and diseases effectively.
  • Pruning trees and shrubs as needed to maintain shape, health, and aesthetic appeal.
  • Monitor soil conditions and implement appropriate fertilisation and soil improvement techniques.
  • Conduct seasonal cleanup activities such as leaf removal, mulching, and preparing the garden for winter.
  • Overseeing greenhouse operations including propagation, temperature control, and maintenance of plants.
  • Planting, maintaining, and harvesting fruits, vegetables, and herbs in the kitchen garden to provide fresh produce for the household.
  • Working closely with other estate staff and contractors to coordinate activities and maintain overall estate aesthetics.

Skills and Attributes:

  • The position would suit a gardener with a real passion for horticulture and excellent attention to detail
  • You will need to be hands-on, physically fit and work in all weather conditions
  • The ideal candidate will hold a Horticultural Qualification, Spray Certificates PA1/PA6 and a Chainsaw Certificate however, this is not essential.
  • Own transport is also required due to the rural location.
