Our client, a leading UK law firm specialising in Medical Negligence, Personal Injury, Employment, and Human Rights, is seeking a Professional Ethics & Compliance Officer to join their team in London.

About the Role:

  • As a Professional Ethics & Compliance Officer, you will play an active role within the Professional Ethics & Compliance team, working closely with the Deputy MLRO & Compliance Manager.
  • Your main responsibility will be to maintain ethical and compliance standards at our client's organisation, ensuring adherence to SRA, ICO, and Lexcel accreditation requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the delivery of compliance requirements to maintain Lexcel accreditation, including preparation for and conduct of Lexcel assessments.
  • Provide guidance and support to fee earners and business services staff on regulatory requirements, SRA Codes of Conduct, SRA Accounts Rules, and internal firm processes.
  • Monitor action plans to improve standards, measure their effectiveness, and ensure milestones are met.
  • Handle client due diligence, conduct sanctions checks, and manage conflicts and confidentiality queries.
  • Coordinate the firm's risk assessment, risk review, and file review processes.
  • Conduct internal audits of files and processes, and maintain compliance policies.
  • Work with the PMO and IT team to develop compliant processes and workflows.
  • Collaborate with the Learning & Development and IT training teams on compliance training requirements.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working in a risk & compliance role within a legal services environment.
  • Proactive mindset with experience in managing individual projects to improve compliance standards.
  • Strong knowledge of SRA Standards and Regulations, Anti-Money Laundering Regulations, and data protection laws.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
  • Adaptable and able to thrive in a busy professional work environment.
  • Demonstrates trust, integrity, and confidence in handling confidential information.
